TIS THE SEASON TO BE JOLLY: Yeah Right...But to make things a little easier...... Alright When you hear the word family christmas you automaticly think of the griswold family christmas from hell, don't worry here are a few tips to make sure your family get together isn't a disater. TWAS THE WEEKS BEFORE THE FAMILY CHRISTMAS:Santa Claus Is Comin' To Town 1. this is very simple DO NOT invite anyone you can't stand, I know you don't want to hurt there feelings but if you can't stand them don't invite them. also DON't invite more people you can handle. if you have the room put them up overnight or a couple of days but never let them stay for over a week. 2. Send out a simple christmas invitation I mean you don't have to annouce to the world your having a christmas get together. have a simple white envelope the invitation is red with white/gold metallic ink. seal it with a snow flake wax seal, gold wax or better yet, just call them, this way you can invite them and catch up on what's new and know they will get the invite 3.Tell your family what's the dress code. Casual, color theme,or formal. I think it should be causal but tell your family to wear something festive, or if they are spending the holidays with you tell them to come as they are :-) 4. personally i supply the drinks and the food but some hosts asks there guests to buy items...do learn to mix the drinks with a handy guide also buy supplies needed for the bar.
TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS AND THrU THE HOUSE NOT A CREATURE WAS STIRRING..but a bunch of relatives: IF your family is staying over christmas eve...Do: make a christmas tradition like my family ..we sit in front of a crackling fire..with some warm eggnog/cider, with the kids roasting marshmellows we read the holdiday classicsThe Night Before Christmas, or get a cd player & listen to A Christmas Carol (Reissue) while you think of mr. scoorge. also my family also has a christmas tradition..ever since i was a child my family would stay up to midnight on christmas morning and open one present.
THE DAY IS HERE...the christmas party is here: start cooking hours before guests arrive and get ready about an hour and a half ahead of time. and if you aren't already listening to your christmas music put it on and let your family arrive with the sound of christmas music and they smell of great food. 1.DO serve cocktails...traditional( martinis, cosmopolitain, shooters) and of course for the men(BEER)...new cocktails( white and dark chocolate martini)use elegant utensils to mix drinks in like Hoffritz 6-Piece Stainless-Steel Bar Tool Set with Rack<AISN:B00004SUIC>WMF Manhattan 3-Piece Stainless-Steel Cocktail Shaker Gift SetLibbey Cancun Margarita 7-Piece Set Also serve non alcoholic drinks such as non alcoholic cocktails/sodas/fruit juices/bottled water for the kids and non drinkers. 2.Do serve munchies but make the munchies light DON'T make it heavy. 3.pass out the cameras when guest arrive such as the 2 Kodak MAX 35mm Single Use Cameras with Flash 4.set your table hours in advance: simple red table cloths.a few douglas firr branches/garland,Crabtree & Evelyn Votive Candle Gift Set/candleabra if you have a chanledier just use candles, name plates if you want.do get elegant or simple china and sliverwear it matches the christmas theme.DON'T go over the topThe Grinch Who Stole Christmas Ceramic Grinch and Max Salt and Pepper Set and hey let the kids help out..if that is you can pull them away from the television 5.Do cook some of the cooking in advance and just freeze and on the day/night of the christmas feast nuke it/reheat But please DON'T: cook weeks in advance the most i think is three days. I mean why slave for hours and rush when you can cook in advance and reheat and it tastes just as delicious 6.The Christmas dinner instead of you and your spouse/loved one, slaving over the hot stove by yourself. Ask your family to give you a hand with the christmas meal. Make them work..i mean it's only right...let the family give you family recipes as well as make new recipes from other cookbooks such as Welcome Home for the Holidays (Gooseberry Patch),The Ultimate Christmas Cookbook: Over 200 Recipes for Seasonal Eating... OR better yet make it a POT-LUCK CHRISTMAS...tell your family to bring certain foods..EX:UNCLE&AUNTY peters can make potato salad, while cousin justin brings the pumpkin/apple pie..But you should cook the trukey/stuffing,but before your family brings foods..remember to ask them if family are allergic/health problems/veggies & cook/ pot-luck around your family. 7. don't freak out over keeping the place clean remember enjoy yourself that's important,a good time and sharing in the memories.
NOW DASH AWAY ,DASH AWAY ALL:.. now you may leave and relax: 1. make sure to say goodbye to all your guest/family members 2. let them wrap up some leftovers for themselves/if there is alot of greens tell them take some home with them 3. after the holidays copy pics and mail/e-mail it to them, that's the least you can do they did take some of the pics as well. 4. when everyone leaves...wash up and go to bed and clean up in the morning *MERRY CHRISTMAS TO ALL AND TO ALL A GOODNIGHT*
