So you've heard all about soapmaking, and maybe played around with Melt & Pour soap, and now you want to do the real deal. Here's what you'll need to get started.

You'll need a good scale, such as the Soehnle 4-Pound Attache Scale

for weighing virtually every ingredient in your recipe. You'll need one or two instant-read thermometers, such as the Taylor Classic Instant-Read Pocket Thermometer

. A good sized stainless-steel pot such as the Farberware Classic 10-Quart Stainless-Steel Stockpot with Lid

will be needed to heat your fats and oils in. A pair of dishwasher safe plastic pitchers such as the Tupperware Impressions 2-Quart Pitcher

for mixing and measuring your lye and water are also needed.

You can stir your soap by hand with a OXO SteeL Slotted Spoon

, or go the more modern (and fast, and easy!) route of using a stick blender such as the Hamilton Beach Turbo-Twister 2-Speed Hand Blender

Once your soap has solidified, use a Hoffritz Stainless-Steel Scraper/Chopper

to slice it into nice even bars. For a more professional and finished look, us a Oxo Good Grips Swivel Peeler

to slice off the corners and give it a nice bevelled look.
