Okay, you are thinking of buying or allready have or just bought a 6th scale Nascar Rc car?
What you SHOULD KNOW is there are different versions of these Nascar 6th scale Rc cars. First and foremost is there are BASE VERSIONS and HOBBY GRADES. If you havent noticed the differences in the packaging it wouldnt suprise me. Lots of people dont notice. Heres the differences below...

First Edition and 2nd Edition BASE VERSIONS

On 6 of these Nascar Rc cars, 5 of them there is 3 versions of each driver that were made. (Dale Jr # 8 has 6 different versions, more on this later.)

First Editon BASE versions which have padded foam bumpers,(copy and paste this link to see the padded bumpers)

2nd Edition BASE versions which have plastic chassis and plastic bumpers.(copy and paste this link to see the plastic bumpers)

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d142/nascarnbroncosfans/280DaleSrcar8.jpg

Hobby Grade Versions or "Added Features" Versions also have plastic bumpers but there ARE DIFFERENCES and UPGRADES which make this a better 6th scale Nascar Rc car by far. More on these below, see Hobby Grade section.

First Editon BASE versions which have padded foam bumpers and 2nd edition Base Versions with the plastic bumpers have NO "Hobby Grades" or "added features" to them and "added features" stickers on the box. The printing on the boxes AND an attentive seller is the key. If you cannot view the actual box from ANY GIVEN SELLER, ASK FOR IT. Some sellers dont know there are differences and have made mistakes and I have been the victim of it. Most sellers will admit their mistakes and offer a refund. Some dont care and wont offer a refund.

First Edition and 2nd Edition BASE VERSIONS cont.

You CANNOT race ANY Three (or more) cars of the 5 different drivers' cars at the same time! Dale Sr. and Dale Jr., Jeff Gordon, Jimmie Johnson and Tony Stewart cars of the First or 2nd Edtion BASE versions CANNOT race together! Transmitter frequencys cannot be changed. There is ONLY 2 frequencies!! 49mghz and 27 mghz. These BASE VERSION cars' frequencies vary from car/driver combo to car/driver combo. Example... I own 2 Dale Jr # 8 First Edition rc cars. They are 27mghz and the other is 49 mghz. I can run them together BUT CANNOT run any other car with them. Speed and steering are straight function. (no varilable anything) They either turn right FULL turn or left FULL turn or it goes straight. Speed is either it goes FULL ON or it doesnt. Same for reverse gear/speed full speed backwards or not. BASE VERSIONS have alignment adkustments with a plastic arrow on the bottom of the car chassis.

Imagine driving your own Real-life size vehicle and you can only make Right or Left turns HARD FULL RIGHT OR HARD FULL LEFT, FLOOR THE GAS or not.. Kinda sucks huh? Well BASE VERSIONS are a HUGE Rc car (34 inches in lenght) doing 20 mph and can only turn HARD FULL RIGHT OR HARD FULL LEFT! Pretty tough not to wreck it in the first ten minutes UNLESS your in a HUGE parking lot, like a mall parking lot (before they open) like where I race mine.

Hobby Grade Versions

You can only have gradual steering (or digitally proportional steering) in a Hobby Grade version.
Digital proportional steering (variable steering), which means you can turn the transmitter wheel slightly and the car turns a little. Turn the transmitter wheel alot and the car turns alot.
You can only have variable speed in a Hobby Grade version.
Variable speed control this means you pull back on the trigger a little the car moves a little, pull back on the trigger all the way and the car takes off! This also works for reverse gears as well.
You can only run all 6 cars at the same time in a Hobby Grade version.
You can own 6 of the same car AND run them at the same time in a Hobby Grade version. (Frequency chipset 6 different ones, must be used here and is avaliable through sources below.) (copy and paste this link to see the pictures of the chipset)

http://i34.photobucket.com/albums/d142/nascarnbroncosfans/frequencypac.jpg

Hobby Grades have two chips, one for the transmitter and one for the chassis that are inserted into any Hobby Grade transmitter and chassis. (copy and paste this link to see the pictures of the locations of the chips on the transmitter and chassis)

If you have noticed that even Amazon.com has a different picture of a Hobby Grade Dale Jr #8 Nascar Rc car. It is wrong. That picture is a FIRST EDITION BASE VERSION. The Dale Jr # 8 Hobby Grade ONLY comes on one of the two versions pictured in the above url.

Dale Jr # 8 First Edition Base version, 2nd Edition Base version, Plastic Chassis Base versions and 2 Frequently Mistaken Rc cars Hobby Grade Versions, Frequently Mistaken Rc cars

Theres 6 different Dale Jr # 8 cars that were produced.

Left. Budweiser Hobby Grade

Middle left. Crest version Hobby Grade

middle right. Crest Foam-padded Chassis with black lower valance.

Right. Chance 2 Racing graphics...foam padded chassis with lower black valance

Not shown...
"BASE", not HG Crest version has a Plastic chassis, no lower black valance.
"BASE", NOT HG Chance 2 Racing graphics has a plastic chassis no black riveted lower valance.
(these would have the same body shells as the HG included some pictures of a plastic chassis for comparison.

Notice the lower front valance.... the two with the black and rivet stripes on the lower front valance are foam padded chassis versions... the lower front area of these two bodys are taller and wont fit on Hobby Grade chassis.

Foam padded chassis bodys DO NOT line up with Hg chassis, but Hobby Grade bodys line up nicely with foam=padded chassis.

If I dont have the original box, How can I tell if my Nascar Rc car is a Base veriosn or Hobby Grade?

If you DO have the box, in the Lower left corner AND the top left hand corners of the box it should say HOBBY GRADE FEATURES. (copy and paste this link to see the pictures of the various boxes of hobby grades for refernce)

If you DO NOT have the original box...

If you have an honest seller should be no problem. If your seller doenst know..heres how you can tell... the back of the transmitter will have two black knobs for start and stop ZEROING out, and "Trim" or alignment. BASE VERSIONS have alignment adkustments with a plastic arrow on the bottom of the car chassis.

Hobby Grades have two chips, one for the transmitter and one for the chassis that are inserted into any Hobby Grade transmitter and chassis. (copy and paste this link to see the pictures of the locations of the chips on the transmitter and chassis)
