In the past ten years, there has been an extrodinarily large number of female pop singers, artists and groups that have released countless singles & albums.
Here I present a list of some of the better, and the not-so-great, female pop artists of today:
Catchy, fun and likable. Her songs are hearty and delicious, and she participated in the writing process. A great addition to your collection if you like Pop & Rock.
Meet PLAY, the Swedish pop quartet. (Though you may already have) This is there best album, when fiery redhead Faye was still in the group. Refreshing, delightful R&B, Pop & Rock with outstanding vocal performances and some of the most genuine young women you'll ever meet.
3LW's debut album offers a large variety of hip-hop/pop that graciously scuffs sexiness. Each girl has a stylized voice, and the music quickly sticks to you. It's not for everyone, but it was a nice solid for this group that became popular for teen girls.
She's great. I love her. Much of this album was written by her in her own spare time, including in her math class. Branch has a beautiful voice but even better music. It's creative and a bit whimisical, as on this debut the songs are mostly based on fictional experiences...but this makes the album all the more lovable.
Harmonium, Vanessa's second album has been greatly overlooked. Perhaps it lacked the luster her hit "A Thousand Miles" brought, but don't think for a second it's not worth the money. Carlton offers her own work on this album, and she works with one or two other composers. An accomplished and imaginative pianist, Vanessa captures vivid feelings of loneliness, love and heartache on this CD with her sweet melodic voice.
Outstanding. There's not much else to say, other than Joss Stone is an extremely talented British soul singer. Don't be fooled by her young age either, this is no manfucatured pop. It's wonderful.
She's easily the most popular of the previous girls mentioned, but that's probably due to her amazing voice and even better music. The album itself could produce more quality hits like "Karma" and "If I Ain't Got You", but overall it's worth your money, especially for R&B fans.
You don't have to like American Idol to like this album. It's very well produced, the songs are great and Kelly's voice is so melodious. Pop fans will greatly enjoy this album.
Brilliant! Finally, there are some girly-girls out there who make pop music worth listening to. This is a nice album for young teens or girls. A rare gem in a pile of a million wannabes.
If not a little off-beat, many will like this Japanese pop singer's music a great deal. From soft to provocative music, a gorgeous voice and some nice dance tracks you may want to pick up a copy.
Ashlee Simpson is everything that's wrong with the music industry today. Her debut album contains screamy, off-key vocals that try desperatly to mock Gwen Stefani, stolen guitar-riffs ("Love Me For Me"), cheesy lyrics and same-sounding songs. Don't be fooled by her "emotion" and "character", Ashlee Simpson is hardly an artist. So desperatly she tries to differenciate herself from pop singer Jessica Simpson that her music becomes overdone and rather boring. Don't bother with this one unless you have a strong appetite for so-so C-list music.
I hate to say it, but this album just wasn't verygood. I thought it would be, but it wasn't. Duff has lost her charm that sold her millions of copies of her debut CD "Metamorphosis", and tries out a new style that sounds like a mix of 80's rock and Britney Spears pop. Hilary's vocals sound okay, but a lot of her singing and music is way too over-the-top on this record. Younger fans may be irritated by the maturing themes, and older fans will compare her to actual rock artists and yawn with Hilary's not-so-complicated tunes. Skip this one unless you really really love Hilary Duff.
Those were the first words that escaped from my lips when I first heard "Speak", Lohan's debut "album". Any charm or charisma Lindsay had that made her famous has slipped away on this album only to showcase her trashy LOOK AT ME! image. Songs are terrible....been there, done that. They all pretty much sound alike, and Lohan's too breathy vocals don't help. Stay away from this album, it's rushed and chock full o' filler tracks that you've all heard before. Only about two songs on this album are nice, but overshadowed by the lousy ones.
Let's be honest here. This horrid excuse for a pop album is basically about Jessica and her husband Nick sexing each other. There. I said it. The songs have very bad lyrics, it's repetative and most of it is ballads about her creepy father or Nick. I'm sorry I wasted my money for the sake of about three okay songs. Don't waste yours. Please.
I don't care how popular she is, this debut was a disaster. "...Baby One More Time" is a deliberate copy of Robyn's "Show Me Love". Besides that, Spears croons in her infamous cracky poppy voice about giving her heart, soul and life to a guy. And also, the cover art makes me want to be sick.
Some of the worst "music" I've ever heard. Really bad hooks and annoying sounds. It's just about sex, orgasms...but it's Britney doing the orgasm. Stay away from this stuff.
