STEAMPUNK Steampunk or Neo-Victorianism (retro-futurism) is a sub-genre of science fiction, speculative fiction and punk. Steampunk has been influenced by the cyberpunk sub-genre and the style of the Victorian Era of Britian and the late 19th century. The steampunk universe is often envisioned as a future utopia of the Victorian era usally on the brink of the industial revolution before the invention of electricity. For example, steam powered machinery, balooned flying machines, leather, brass and spring powered gadgets and victorian style dress including corsets, peticoats, vests, top hats and goggles. Notably, steampunk has been influenced by 19th century inventors such as Leonardo DaVincci, Nichola Tesla and Thomas Edison and writers such as H.G. Wells, Mark Twain, Mary Shelley and Jules Verne.
Movies:New(1980's-2000's)I'm not sure that any of these modern movies had the term Steampunk in mind when they were made (except maybe Steamboy), many of them fit into this catagory because the are set in the victorian era, or use film conventions such as sepia tone or film noir influences, show the use steam powered technologies and/or feature fictional characters from the victorian age such as Dorian Gray and Captain Nemo. You can think of these movies as containing elements of Steampunk, instead of being Steampunk movies.
