I'll start with a book who I personally enjoyed reading and is a great example of contemporary fantasy. In Dragon Over Washington is fantastical events that happen in the book are investigated by Thorpe, the NSA agent we get to follow around and we learn about what's going on the same time he learns, till we understand just how in danger his life, and the life of our current world is.
Dragon Over Washington stands out not only because of its quality, but also because it's a contemporary fantasy book without vampires in it ...
