A guide by Pwyrdan "Dream Dragon" (Crown King, AZ)

Products sampled from this guide:
The Neverending Story This book is often overlooked, probably because of the mediocre movie derived from it. But this is, in my opinion, one of the greatest children's fantasies of all time, more than suitable for adult reading as well. It is fast paced, colorful, and addresses the nature of fantasy and stories, and their worth to humanity. A true classic. The Hounds of the Morrigan I was an avid reader of Celtic Fantasy as a teen, I'm surprised I never heard of this stand-alone gem. Though the protagonists are young children and the language is simple, substance isn't lacking here. Don't let the length intimidate you! It pushes 700 pages, but is such a fun ride. The Hobbit This book is a classic for a reason. Though The Lord of the Rings is better and deeper, it may be a bit too dark for younger readers. The Hobbit is a great introduction to Middle Earth and its inhabitants. Often copied, but never matched! The Wrinkle in Time Quintet Boxed Set (A Wrinkle in Time, A Wind in the Door, A Swiftly Tilting Planet, Many Waters, An Acceptable Time) Absolutely beautiful series, every time I read it I get more out of it. Adventures through space and time explore the nature of evil, humanity and faith. The Earthsea Trilogy: A Wizard of Earthsea; The Tombs of Atuan; The Farthest Shore This so-called trilogy is followed by 4. Tehanu: Book Four (Earthsea Cycle), 5. Tales from Earthsea and 6. The Other Wind. They are magical, lyric, and sometimes dark, but not to be missed. The Chronicles of Narnia Especially suited to younger readers, but this series also has a lot to offer for teens. It has some Christian allegory, but the adventure is the focus, and messages about loyalty and following your conscience are powerful no matter your beliefs. His Dark Materials Trilogy: Northern Lights, Subtle Knife, Amber Spyglass is criticised for its anti-organized religion message, but the story is so much deeper than than. The adventure is the thing, and it is thought-provoking, but what one person gets out of it may not be what another does. Absolutely amazing series. Percy Jackson and the Olympians Hardcover Boxed Set (Percy Jackson & the Olympians) I was pleasantly surprised by this series. The modern characterization of Greek gods and goddesses is superb, and hilarious! I love the explanation of Western Civilization and its movement. My only complaint - the Good-Evil polarization of some of the gods. The Chronicles of Prydain Boxed Set A wonderful Welsh-myth based series that goes from fun to hilarious to dark to heartbreaking and back again - sweeping you along effortlessly in an epic but not at all generic adventure. The Steps Up the Chimney (The Magician's House, Book 1) (Magician's House Quartet) This is an apparently little-known but truely enjoyable series. The interaction of the kids and other family members is utterly believable, and the magic is wonderfully mysterious. I look forward to finishing the series. Here is the rest: 2. The Door in the Tree (Magician's House Quartet) 3. The Tunnel Behind the Waterfall (Magician's House Quartet) 4. The Bridge in the Clouds (Magician's House Quartet) Seaward A beautiful and surreal Celtic Fantasy about dealing with death - or rather, chosing life. The Brothers Lionheart Another fantasy adventure about death and what is beyond, from the excellent Astrid Lindgren.
