The Spiral Dance: A Rebirth of the Ancient Religion of the Goddess: 20th Anniversary Edition This book is very informative. It sheds light on the origins of, and just exactly what "Wicca" really is. They are not, and were not, evil Satan worshipers, as depicted by the church or Christians, and latter in Hollywood movies. As a quote from the Wiccan Reed clearly states, "Do what ye want, but harm no one!" Witches also believe that, "What comes around-goes-around" and the evil that you do to, and or send out to harm others, comes back to the sender/doer "Three-fold!" Does this sound like the devil worshiping, human sacrificing, and blood drinking fiends as witches are portrayed as in the movies? A description that clearly fits the early "Christians" with their murderous crusades and inquisitions, and present day "Muslims" with their jihad suicide bombings and ethnic cleansings! Wicca is a pagan religion (anything other than Christianity) that seeks to bind with and understand nature and the spirits in nature. They believe that the earth is a living thing and that all life interacts at some time and on all levels. That all life is also "Inter-dependant" on other life. Their Godhead is called "Goddess" the all virgin, complete within herself! She could easily have been called "God" who is self sustaining and eternal, in which all existance and creation emanates from. Instead, wiccans chose to see God as a female God. The persecution of wicca practioners began about, Thirteen hundred years A.D. It Began with the popes of the Catholic Church, which were both very political and powerful at that time. The persecutions were a valuable tool used to torment mostly women, (millions were murdered)who were considered, "Intrinsically evil." This was due to their menstruation periods, and just to keep them subjugated! The persecutions latter spread to the... "Ridding" of political enemies, trouble makers, uppity woman, problem children and men! All one needed was to be branded as a witch by a political enemy, a deceitful neighbor or a jealous lustful husband! They are then arrested and are considered "Guilty" until proven innocent. That was when the torture began! The most devious torture devices were developed and used to deliver maximum agony to the accused to force an admission of guilt, and nothing imagined was spared! The tortures included: whippings, beatings, burns with hot irons, slow evisceration, eyeballs gouged out with spoons, rollings across spiked racks, amputations and finally hangings. They were also drawn and quartered by powerful horses (torn apart) and of course, burned alive, just to name a few! The incredible pain continued until those being tortured were forced to admit to the charges plus, brand other innocent persons as witches until the inquisitor obtained "Thirteen" witches, or... a coven! Over ninety percent of those branded as witches and latter brutally murdered were not even witches! This book is incredable! Check it out.
