Would not try to grind fresh ginger, ginger should be grated by hand. Dry spices work best for this type of grinder.

I haven't tried cloves but I did grind whole cinnamon and it ground it to powder. I've never had fresh ground cinnamon it was so strong and I even mixed it with coffee beans for a cinnamon coffee.

I agree with others on grinding fresh ginger. However, I've ground dried ginger root in the Krups, and it did a good job.

I've used it to grind nutmeg, and it works pretty well. You need to put more than one nut into the chamber for it to work well (and it gets pretty noisy), but it will grind it up.

I wouldn't try to grind fresh ginger; this grinder is not meant for wet stuff---only dry. I haven't tried cloves, but i think there would be no problem.

Only dry spices. I used to grind fresh ginger & sometimes herbs -- not a good move. Eventually the moisture gets into the interior. Use a mini food processor for fresh ginger or grind by hand (the Japanese graters with the little teeth that hold the stringy bits back are excellent) & mix your ground dry spices into it.
