A great introduction to Borges ...,

A long time ago, my teacher recommended me to read this book, because it was a great introduction to Borges. She was right: I loved it, and due to that was curious enough to go on reading other books written by him. "El Hacedor" includes several short stories and some poems. All of them are quite different, but deeply original. My favorite is a poem called "Poema de los dones", where he tries to convey the great irony of the fact that he was made director of Argentina's National Library just when he was losing his sight. Poignant, caustic, but so "Borges", this poem is one of the best ones I've read. I'll copy part of it, so you can have an idea of what it is like: De hambre y de sed (narra una historia griega) I've read this poem many times, but every time I re-read it I marvel at how well he was able to write... The poem continues but if you want to read more, read the book. It's really worth it !!! :)
