5.0 out of 5 stars An excellent collection of short stories about the .hack world., February 12, 2006
This review is from: .hack//AI buster 2 (v. 2) (Paperback)
This book is not actually a direct sequel to .hack//AI Buster volume one; it is a collection of five short stories about various characters from AI Buster and another .hack series, Legend of the Twilight. The five stories are:

2nd Character/Haruka Muzuhara's Situation: This story retells the events of AI Buster volume one from the point of view of Hokuto, the annoying amateur wavemaster who followed Albireo around. In this story we find out about Haruka Muzuhara, the woman who plays as Hokuto, and learn that she is not such a newbie after all.

Wotan's Spear: This story is a direct sequal to AI Buster volume one and tells the story of what happened to Alibero after the events of the first novel, how he was changed, and why he left The World.

Kamui: This story tells about Alibero's successor, Kamui, and her own disturbing encounter with a Vagrant AI in The World.

Rumor: This story tells about Rena, one of the main characters of the Legend of the Twilight anime and manga, directly before that story began. This was probably the weakest story in the book because it was too short and not much happened.

Firefly: This story is about Hotaru from Legend of the Twilight. It introduces the player behind the character, and tells about how Hotaru first joined the Japanese server of The World and met Sanjuro.

Overall, this was an excellent collection that gives more depth to many of the characters from The World. I'd recommend it to all .hack fans.

There are a few other inconsistencies present throughout the book.

3.0 out of 5 stars .Hack//AI Buster 2, September 4, 2008

This review is from: .hack//AI buster 2 (v. 2) (Paperback)

The .Hack franchise absorbs the novel format, as well as Manga, anime and video games. The books are very short, but concise and interesting. The stories can be found elsewhere on Amazon, so I'll skip to the review:

The writing is fairly standard for young adult audiences, clear and fast-moving and not too complex. Those who play MMORPGs a lot might get fractionally frustrated with the constant explanation of gaming terms and phrases, but they don't get in the way or slow the story down too much - the flipside is it means those who have never played MMORPGs can enjoy the .Hack franchise thoroughly without getting lost.

I'd recommend the books to any fan of the anime series, or as a great starting point for young adults hoping to the wonderful .Hack universe and its absorbing, philosophical realms.

5.0 out of 5 stars The night of the old God hath passed..., January 18, 2008

This review is from: .hack//AI buster 2 (v. 2) (Paperback)
An awesome addition to the .hack media. Even though the stories are short, they perfectly fit in the .hack series universe, add some more personal touch (more real life references!) to the characters already known and introduce new and interesting characters as well. I won't say that there are lots of impressive findings and plot twists, but what these stories meant to show is here. Is it possible for God to exist in a virtual world? Is it possible for AI to feel, learn and long to live? After all there's no difference between binary code and flesh, as long as the soul is there. That's what these stories mean to me. Absolutely a must-have for .hack fans.
