5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome... Yet kinda pricey, August 12, 2003
By
Kyoko Saiga (*sigh* Ohio .__.) - See all my reviews
This review is from: .hack/Liminality Original Soundtrack Plus (Audio CD)
When I first saw .hack//Liminality, I fell in love with the music... Especialy the opening theme. I was desperate to find the soundtrack, so, I came here. I was pretty much like, "Hahahaha!! I've found it!! I've fina-- [money]??" Yes, yes, rather expensive, no? Well, there is hope. If you're a fan of the .hack series, then you've most likely heard of .hack//SIGN. I suggest you buy the special edition version of .hack//SIGN, voulume three, because it includes this sound track! And you'll have a nice DVD to watch, also.

But, on to what the music is like. The main disk is a wonderful collection of mainly instrumental songs. A lot of the tracks use the violin, which is nice. ^^ The violin can be so soothing... *daydreams, then snaps out of it* Okay, the only track with lyrics on this CD is "Liminality", a sort of haunting, yet beautiful song. Overall, this CD is really cool!

Oh, did you think we were done? Nope! There's a bonus mini disk! ^_____^ The mini disk has a total of four songs. Edge (first opening theme), A Thousand and One Nights (second opening theme), Twilight Sea (series ending theme), and A Thousand and One Nights: karaoke version! The A Thousand and One Nights is a nice, not-too-fast song. Awesome lyrics... What they traslate to, I mean. Edge, my most favortest song EVER, is a hip, up-beat song that you'll love.. I promise. ;) You have to read the lyrics translated to really love it. Twilight Sea... A slow song about a couple "setting out in twilight seas". It's really nice... Yet sad. But the fact that it's sad just makes it better... The last part of it, translated: "Setting out in twilight seas, the couple will never meet again. Vanishing nights of sleep with those lonely looks." Brilliant.

So, that's my review. Go, on, buy it, you know you want to... I highly recommened that you do so! ^___^

4.0 out of 5 stars Yuki Kajiura does it again! Does what? Composes beautiful music!, July 29, 2005
This review is from: .hack/Liminality Original Soundtrack Plus (Audio CD)
I haven't seen this anime (but I hope to someday). So my picking up its soundtrack is a very unusual move for me. But I've become a fan of Ms. Kajiura's work, so I took a chance on it.

I've been pleased with the results. The hauntingly beautiful melodies that first drew me to her soundtrack work- the exquisite and equally beautiful female vocals- not overly done, but finely blended into the overall piece- this is the kind of CD you can play at work and nobody complains about it.

The primary reason my rating isn't higher is that I find a part of enjoying a soundtrack recording is the memories it evokes of the rest of the work. So if I close that loop, this could improve. But even without that, it's worth the price.

The package has two CD's- a normal sized one that is primarily a standard soundtrack CD using musicians and a female vocalist from the show's staff. Alas, as I cannot read Japanese, I cannot tell you her name [embarassing, because she deserves better]. She doesn't sound like Emily Bindiger, who I came to know well and admire from .hack//sign. Whoever she is, she's no slouch, although not quite as fiery as Ms Bindiger. Sweeter and gentler, perhaps, which isn't such a bad thing, really.

The second is a smaller CD with songs done by See-Saw, which is a duo consisting of Yuki and Chiaki Ishikawa- a vocalist whose singing (on "Emerald Green", which ends .hack//Legend of the Twilight) has literally brought tears to my eyes [pretty good job, considering the language problem I alluded to earlier]. I like Yuki Kajiura, but I love See-Saw- it's one of those magical groups I always want to hear more from- so this CD is my favorite of the two.

The short story- it's beautiful music, simple and accessible, and it'll make your day brighter. If you're a fan of the anime or of Ms Kajiura, a reasonable purchase. But if you're looking for an intro/best of CD for Yuki, look for "Dream Field" [I had to order it from Japan], or "Fiction" [which I purchased through Amazon]. This is still a good CD, and you won't be wasting your money, but you won't fully appreciate the magic of Yuki Kajiura and See-Saw with just this one.

5.0 out of 5 stars Not just for gamers and anime fans, October 7, 2009
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: .hack/Liminality Original Soundtrack Plus (Audio CD)
This soundtrack is an excellent addition to any music collection. Even if you've never watched Liminality, you'll like this soundtrack. It has a varied collection of styles, mostly instrumental, that are nice for relaxation or just for background music while you work.
