Please see below for answers.
1) DVD for easy use, but MPG is also a great option if you want to watch the video on your PC.
2) For DVD and MPEG2, the resolution is 480P (DVD standard). If you are capturing from HD camcorder using a Firewire cable, you can record video in 720P or 1080P assuming your video is already in high definition.
3) MPEG2 file is converted into DVD files (i.e. VOB). Some video software can play, edit or convert VOB file into other formats.
