In this book Dr Ron Lee Davis outlines ways to deal with a variety of negatives that hit each one of us at one time or another. It's important to note first that this book is not just some academic treatise, cooly written like some theological treatise. Rather, Ron wrote this book just a few weeks after experiencing the agoncy of losing his best friend--his brother. In other words, this book is written from the heart.

My favorite chapter is "The Hurt of Loneliness." I like this chapter best because Ron explains how we can help those suffering the despair of loneliness. He points out that our country is one in which we all crawl into our shell and avoid interaction with others--a "nation of strangers." Ron exhorts the church to a model of "intense community and fellowship." The church should be a refuge where we can find healing, belonging and joy.

One especially valuable thought: "We must learn the discipline of solitude." Seek out intimacy with God. This probably means many hours alone in prayer. After all, that's what Jesus did, and we're to follow his example.

In the epilogue, Ron concludes with a few key points: (1) Recognize that trials have a purpose; (2) Allow trials to mold and strengthen our character; (3) Life is an adventure of growth. Make the choice to allow God's light to shine into our life.

This book was very uplifting and encouraging to me. It's written from the heart. I highly recommend it!
