Aren't superheroes supposed to be...I dont know, heroric? He saved a small village in Hungary or somewhere in the first one, but that took ten minutes of screen time. He saved Pepper at the end of this one, that took more like two minutes. The rest of the time he was being, admittedly, cool, and working on saving himself. Everyone would want to do cool stuff with a cool suit and have parties and impress people, and try to save oneself. That makes one super average.

Disagree, he resolves conflicts. You must have missed the senate hearing where he went on about world peace or all the magazine covers, etc. He had been doing a lot of saving people. This movie was about him dealing with his ever approaching death, how he overcame certain death a second time just in time to save not only Pepper but everyone at the Expo, and it introduces key characters for the avengers movie.

He's not someone who wants to do cool stuff with a cool suit to impress people at parties, he was celebrating his "last" birthday and went over board.
