If you're looking to make yoga a part of your life, Yoga Guru is for you. This Android app acts as a personal yoga trainer, guiding you to practice yoga with well-organized regimens, step-by-step instructions, and videos.

Yoga Guru offers a platform for you to attain physical discipline, self awareness, and mental peace. Its content has been developed by expert yoga practitioners, with the intent of making it easy for you to realize yoga's many benefits.

Take the Yoga Path

The app features exercise regimens that can be customized easily to your preferences. Choose a regimen based on your experience level; you can choose from Beginner, Default (for mid-level yoga skills), and Advanced. Add or remove exercises to make any regimen fit your needs.

You can also select from three separate types of yoga exercise. For moves that focus on a healthy body, choose the Physical Yoga Exercises category. For a healthy mind, choose the Meditation category. If you're looking for exercises that help common ailments, choose the Medical category.

What it IS: An app with too-small videos, an instructor whose body outline you can hardly see due to the clothing, and one that necessitates constant clicking and interaction with the screen that severely interrupts the peace and meditation process often desired by users who use Yoga as a method of relaxation. They might want to change the voice heard throughout if a number of people can't understand the accent (I had slight difficulty). The exercises for pregnant women should caution them not to lie on their backs for extended periods of time and not to overstretch and perform exercises that are to rigorous -- that's a no-no!

There definitely should have been an option to play some kind of relaxing music in the background, as many folks into Yoga look forward to that. Some prefer silence, some soothing music... it should give the option to please both groups. Pocket Yoga, another app, give the user the choice to even play their own music from their music library... so if they already have the perfect CD for their workout, they can use what is already preferred and familiar to them, OR choose from the array of soothing music that fits the particular workout.

Puzzlingly, a review I saw here this morning mentioned that there were "very extensive yoga asanas, with videos, instructions, benefits and cautions along with the option to follow a daily regimen...too good." I just happen to not agree with that assertation of "benefits and cautions" if the mothers-to-be aren't forewarned properly. Mysteriously, the post is gone.

If you already have "Yoga Guru Donate," then you need to be aware that you already have THIS app ("Pro"). It's just called "Donate" elsewhere....

4.0 out of 5 stars good app but a little disappointed January 28, 2012

I love the app, but I am a little disappointed that the regimens do not run as a workout. you have to scroll through them yourself. Makes it a little difficult to zone out during your yoga workout. please fix in the near future! Other than that, great app.

2.0 out of 5 stars Hopefullness turned to disappointment! March 25, 2012

For starters the video segments are too small to comfortably watch while doing the exercises. Secondly the accent of the narrator is so thick it is almost not understandable. I admit, I am a newcomer to yoga but I found even the "beginner" level poses and exercises to be somewhat advanced and difficult to do without some prior exposure to the art of yoga. The Yoga Guru Pro app that I downloaded also had the terrible habit of resetting the video to the beginning "still starting picture shot" well before the narrator was finished describing the benefits of each pose session. The narrating was limited to the supposed medical and physical benefits of each pose and NOT instructional as to how the pose should be done. Check out the Ki Gong app available on Amazon apps, it may be a collection of YouTube videos and audio portions but is enjoyably watchable and great to listen to aswell.

2.0 out of 5 stars meh... March 25, 2012

was excited to see a yoga free app of the day, I have taken several classes and would say I am familiar with yoga...but I found this app disappointing...the voice should be telling you how to do the pose, not the benefits of it, and yes, the videos are too small. if you want an excercise regiem, I would say try pocket yoga, which plays for a continuous amount of time, and repeats exercises and is set up more like a real class. if you want a list of poses, this app gives you that, but other than that, not the best...hey, at least it was free today

2.0 out of 5 stars Nice concept, poor execution on the Fire March 25, 2012
Verified Purchase
This is a great concept for an app that blends written instruction with video to help teach basic yoga moves. Unfortunately, it's not very usable. The videos are just thumbnail sized and very hard to see. The audio is poor and almost impossible at times to understand, even with an external speaker. There's no way to play routines in sequence - you have to select them one at a time which is very cumbersome if you're trying to use it while actually doing the moves.

It's worth a look if you can get it as a free app to review some basic yoga moves/poses. Otherwise, don't bother.

2.0 out of 5 stars Removed after downloading March 25, 2012

I was excited to for the yoga free app of the day. But if you are more experienced and if you prefer power yoga or vinyasa this will disappoint you. I would recommend the pocket yoga also.

3.0 out of 5 stars Pregnant yoga March 25, 2012
By Monarch

I was happy to find pregnancy under the medical yoga category, however the poses were mostly lying on your back and pregnant women are not supposed to lay on our backs. I'm sure I can probably put together my own regimen, but that defeats the purpose of the pregnancy category. On the plus side, it does save to the sd card.

3.0 out of 5 stars Force Close March 25, 2012

I give it 3 stars as it looks and sounds like an interesting app. I also give it 3 stars because every time I try to open an exercise it force closes on my old DROID X so I can't actually use it.

The good thing about free apps is that they are free and you feel no compunction to keep them when they disappoint you.

I never purchased this item so I can't give a response on how I like it. I don't know who purchased it but seems like the lines got crossed here somewhere.

What I like about this app are the videos, it really helps when someone is showing you how to do the poses correctly. Thanks

1.0 out of 5 stars Crap App
The UI is ridiculous, didn't use it for more than 2 days. An app needs to motivate you, not be an arduous task.

1.0 out of 5 stars no good
The app icon looks professional....but that's about all that is professional. This app needs to improve! I had hoped to get some video classes-go elsewhere for a video yoga class. Read more
