Solid Overview for New Homeschoolers or Those Considering, January 13, 2010
This review is from: The home school manual (Hardcover)
First, may I offer our sympathies to the family and friends of Mr. Wade. I just learned today that he passed away in Dec. of 2009 (last month). In light of that, I decided to look up some of his books and then to leave a review.
This is one of the first books we bought when we began homeschooling over 25 years ago and I'm glad I did. We have just our youngest at home now and are eager to see the next generation continue home education. We're passing on books to them -- this will be one of them. It's a very helpful book. There were chapters on everything from state laws (now probably outdated unless it has been revised - but HSLDA has all the latest free on their website) and dealing with educational authorities in general, supply lists, typical courses of study, tips, organizing, subject area advice, why homeschool, parenting considerations involved, and more.
Several moms contributed chapters with expertise gleaned from their own experiences and unique family homeschool adventures. The book touches on a whole overview of it, providing a look at the whole picture; not so much detail that it will overwhelm someone who is beginning and trying to absorb a foundation to build on, but a sloid base nonetheless. It really is a great starting point. My copy is quite beat up from my own use as well as loaning it out. I got way more than my money's worth out of it and used copies are a real bargain.
God bless you as you discern your path on the way to a lifestyle of learning!
