How To Fall In Love In 20 Minutes,
By Steve Clason (Texas) - See all my reviews
This review is from: how to fall in love in 20 minutes (Audio CD)
How To Fall In Love In 20 Minutes, The Dambrots second album, came as quite a surprise to me on first hearing. I enjoyed their first one very much, and was expecting a similar low-key approach on this one. But right from the start of the first song, Take Off Cindy, I could hear the difference. Chopping acoustic power chords start, and then are joined by a catchy bass line and jangly tambourine. In mid-song, the tune breaks off into a Byrds-inspired guitar riff. The CD then moves song by song in directions unexpected on their first. For me, the best moments on this CD are the haunting, intense Missing Something You Only Imagined; and the very strange and fun Little Boxes In Big Boxes. Last September, the song most reminiscent of their first album, is another pleasure. No review of this CD would be complete without acknowledging the beauty of the vocals. Dawn Marie's angelic voice has an almost hypnotizing effect on me when I listen to this. Five stars. Highly recommended. |
