5.0 out of 5 stars Definitely worth a listen!, November 10, 2009
This review is from: hyperstory (Audio CD)
I came across Hyperstory a couple of months ago when they put out Ascension and A Happening on their website, prior to the album being released. I am a big fan of Morcheeba, FC Kahuna, Thievery Corp etc.. and if you like that form of electronica, loungy, trip hop, then you should really like this. It has the horns and loops of Thievery, some of the guitar work of a Morcheeba - definitely something for everyone.

It has a very soundscape sort of feel to it, and I could easily see it being used in commercials or films - much like other contemporaries in this style. Worth adding to your collection.

I love this album. It reminds me of the Gorillaz, but maybe a little more mellow. Makes a great chill out and enjoy life album.hyperstory

5.0 out of 5 stars a happening, February 5, 2010
This review is from: hyperstory (Audio CD)
I heard this a little while back as a preview for the album. I collect music. There is not much I haven't heard, and this song in particular pretty much shapes up to be something fun but not all that different from the rest of this genre... and then the little girl's voice kicks in. I can't get enough of it. So raw and young it seems as if she shouldn't be able to hit the notes she hits and keep them (Did one of the band members put one of their three year olds' in a metal walled room with a mic to make this?)... I don't know. So innocent sounding and yet so on key. It's truly beautiful and precious... I end up turning up the volume every time that little voice kicks in. I've never heard anything like it and hope the rest of their music has some inspiration such as this... Please keep in mind, I'm not saying it's some preschool track. It's just that they had some young sounding voice singing as background for a part in a song that feels somewhat deep, and it really catches you off guard when it kicks in. Really hard to describe... Almost feels like a purifying voice in the midst of some dark random track. It's the contrast that works, I suppose. I keep on typing hoping I can convey the way it feels to hear the track hit you, but I think the only way it can really be experienced is by listening to it. If you don't feel the same way, so be it, but if you do, it's very rewarding. For those who do "get it" I'd be interested in hearing reviews that post similar types of tracks, if you have the time... Where you can close your eyes and just feel the beauty in them...

Hmmm, what a sappy review...

5.0 out of 5 stars Love this album, November 10, 2009

this is so cool. I haven't heard anything like it. I read about them on FensePost blog. It's like part electronica, part pop/hip hop. kind of gorillaz but more laid-back.

what a great find...I think they are a pretty new band.
