Anyone who's ever had the battery die in their cell phone, MP3 player, camera, or other electronic device knows what a pain it can be (and that it always seems to happen at the most innoportune moment). iSound's Portable Power Max is perfect for avoiding these annoyances: an ultra-portable backup battery that will charge multiple devices at once, without the need for an AC outlet or multiple backup batteries.

iSound Portable Power Max

Never run out of power for your mobile devices.

Portable Power for Your Mobile Devices

16,000 mAh Battery

A 16,000 mAh Lithium-Polymer battery provides up to 480 hours of power, so you can talk more, listen to more music, and view videos longer. That's enough juice to charge an iPad twice, or charge an iPhone 4 eleven times.

The Portable Power Max will charge any device with a maximum current requirement of 2.4 A (as an example, the iPhone requires a maximum of 1 A). It's perfect for the iPad, iPod, iPhone, and other common portable devices.

480hours

Get up to 480 hours of power from the 16,000 mAh battery. (8,000 mAh version also available.)
Portable Power Max USB view
5 USB ports for 5 USB-powered devices

Don't need the Max model? An 8,000 mAh Portable Power is also available, for 240 hours of charging power.

Charging/Power Indicators

The Portable Power Max's battery takes about 7-9 hours to receive a full charge. LED status indicators let you know how much charge power is remaining--when all four blue LEDs are on, you've got a full battery, and are ready to go! Charging times for connected devices depend on individual specifications.

Charge Up to Six Devices at Once

The Portable Power features five USB ports, allowing you to charge five USB-charged devices at once. The included USB to micro USB cable is actually a splitter, which brings the grand total up to six.

Great Overnight Charger

Use the Portable Power to charge several devices overnight from a single AC outlet--perfect for anyone who travels with a bag/pocket full of gadgets, or for family vacations, charging everyone’s electronics at the same time.

A handy travel bag is also included, for easy transport.

Built-In Flashlight

Connect your devices in the dark with this handy built-in flashlight--find cords and ports with ease.

Portable Power Max Box Contents
100/240v AC Adapter Included

Conveniently re-charge the Portable Power Max with the included AC adapter.

NOTICE:

Some BlackBerry models require use of the enclosed BlackBerry adapter in order to charge properly.

As an engineer I travel with too many power hungry devices. I have been lugging along both a single USB port battery pack and powered hub in additions to other devices. Hence I am always on the lookout for devices that reduce the quantity of travel devices.

I was happy to find this device because all four ports changed devices at the same time. I was looking forward to reducing number of devices I travel with for business. This unit work well for about six months until the battery had some type of failure and expanded enough to open the seams of the case.
I contacted the vendor and it took them they days to send me a form email that explained that if it was older than 6 months I was SOL. I sent back an outline of what had happened and indicated I was around 3 weeks out of coverage. Nothing has come back in three weeks.

Avoid this product due to lack of proper support and potential danger of a dramatic failure of the device. I wish Amazom supported zero or negative stars.

Joe

There are lots of good reviews of this product. The are a few bad reviews. My experience falls into the latter category.

Aft receiving the i.Sound, I fully charged the battery, and then I carried it carefully into the Sierra Nevada Mountains at the start of a multi-day outing. I expected to be able to recharge my iPad at least once.

After setting up my tent the first afternoon, I pulled the I.Sound out of a padded container, turned it on, and plugged in my IPad, which was about 85% charged. Five minutes later, the iPad was 88% charged, and the i.Sound was dead.

On the off chance that I'd left the I.Sound on accidentally while carrying it in my daypack - which I didn't think was possible, given that I turned it on, and initially all four lights were lit - I gave it another chance. After returning home last night. I charged the I.Sound overnight, and plugged in my iPad this morning. The iPad was 93% charged.

In two minutes, I was down to two lights on the I.Sound. In five minutes, the I.Sound was again completely dead, after charging my iPad a few percent.

I hope I can get my money back on what appears to be a hit or miss product, which, in my case, is a definite miss.

UPdate, August 23: I tried a few more times to see if I couldn't get the product to work. For example, I gave it more hours to charge (it would only light up three of the four charging indicator lights), and I made sure my iPad was off when I plugged it into the i.Sound. The result was the same - the unit failed after five minutes.

This device, the " i.Sound Portable Power Max with 16,000 mAh," is a VERY DANGEROUS FIRE HAZARD. After using the device once, I charged it, put it in the case, and placed it in a large drawer with other electonic equibment (portable hard drive, two mice, laptop, etc). Three days later, I smelled smoke in the second floor of my house during the night. The source of the smoke was the " i.Sound Portable Power Max with 16,000 mAh", which had melted. The The wood on the inside of the drawer was scorched, the portable power max was completely destroyed, the case of the portable hard drive was melted, and cables for the two mice were melted. The house is filled wtih the stench of burnt plastic.
The power supply was not being charged when the fire occurred. DO NOT PUT THIS DEVICE IN A SUITCASE OR CARRY ON BAG WHEN TRAVELING! i.Sound Portable Power Max with 16,000 mAh for iPad, iPad2, iPod, iPhone, Droid, and Blackberry (Black/Silver)

I purchased two of these units, and both were defective.

After about a week of light use, the blue LEDs malfunctioned. Only two of the four would light up, thus making it impossible to tell when the unit was fully charged. I called iSound tech support several times over four days. They do not answer the phone. You will get a message saying they will call you back within 48 hours. So I wrote email instead. Same thing: they say they'll contact you in 48 hours. They didn't answer my questions, they just asked if I had a receipt so I could return it. I returned it through Amazon instead and got another.

The second unit became defective after about three weeks. This time, it appears that three of the four blue LEDs stopped working. In both cases, I had used the units very lightly--only one iPhone--just to test it before a long trip. I would leave it plugged in one day, then use it unplugged the next. I returned it to Amazon and bought a different brand.

The warranty on this unit is only 120 days, if I'm not mistaken. I don't know if anything is wrong with this unit besides the blue LEDs malfunctioning. Too bad. This seems to be the biggest battery out there. The unusually short warranty and lack of support make this product not worth the risk, in my opinion.

iSound 16000 MaH portable battery.

Sure, it's a little bit large - but really, it's plenty small enough to easily fit in a briefcase, backpack or even a cargo pocket.

I wanted to test out the life of the battery before writing the review, so I charged up the iSound first, then ran my iPad2 down to 14% battery. I then put the iPad to sleep and plugged in the spare. Four hours later I was up to 95% power of the iPad and the indicators in the iSound still show between 50 and 75% charge. AWESOME!

I feel this would easily charge the iPad from near zero to full twice and then some. Thinking about a great use for this would be a long flight or trip where you don't have access to charging. Load up your device with movies, play games, whatever you need. This is a leap forward in spare/portable power for USB powered devices. The little led flashlight is an interesting addition, not really sure why it's there.

Great for charging your phone, reader, pad, any other USB chargeable device.

Don't really see any cons to this one - Superb and no issues. Very well done at a great price!

UPDATE - 11 Nov 11

I still use this extended batter for travel when using the iPad2 and new iPhone 4S - The only issue I have at this point is one of the charging LED indicators failed - it does not affect the function of the unit - it's just slightly annoying. Still get great amounts of extra power in this small package! Still highly recommended many months later!
