Almost as small as the iPod itself, the DreamGear i.Sound MAX speaker system makes a handy addition to your iPod accessory collection. The speaker system is built around an integrated docking station and a series of nine docking spacers for various- sized iPods. Together, the spacers and docking station can hold, charge, and sync most new iPods, including the iPod 3G, 4G, 5G, photo, mini, and nano. Listeners with older iPods aren't left out of the loop, however, as the i.Sound MAX also offers an extra line-in input for attaching non-dockable iPods (like the first-generation iPod and the iPod shuffle) along with other MP3 players and personal CD players.
The i.Sound MAX may be small, but it delivers a crisp sound thanks to its quartet of full- range 1.25-inch neodymium drivers, which produce an overall frequency response of 180 Hz to 20 kHz. As a result, the speaker system makes a great companion in the garage, on the back patio, or at a friend's barbecue. The real star of the i.Sound MAX, however, is its robust remote control, which offers dedicated buttons for a variety of iPod features, including buttons for scrolling through playlists, browsing albums, or selecting shuffle or repeat play modes. The remote gives the i.Sound MAX far more flexibility than most competing iPod speaker systems.
Other features include metal grilles for extra durability, a blue LED power indicator, a digital volume control, and a bass enhancement button. The i.Sound MAX, which runs on four AA batteries (not included) or AC power (adapter included), measures 10 by 5.5 by 5.5 inches (W x H x D) and is backed by a 120-day warranty.

Pros: fabulous sound, good volume, great portability, line-in jack for use with other devices, remote control, lightweight, charges and syncs iPod if plugged into computer
Cons: easily knocked off balance due to design and light weight I have had this product for about 2 years and LOVE IT. I use it both plugged in and as a portable unit using battery power. That flexibility is wonderful. The sound is fabulous - so good that I use it as a speaker with my laptop when using it on the go as well. I use it for all types of music and am happy with the sound. My original one stopped working, but likely it was because I have dropped it on more than one occasion (it is very light and somewhat easily knocked off-balance do to the design). I love it so much I have to get another one, which I will keep away from the edge of tables! Another of its great features is the line-in jack so you can use it with any mp3 player, etc. I've even used it with my "boombox" because the sound is better than the built-in speakers. Finally, I had the same problem someone mentioned with the nano plate not fitting my nano. However, if I leave it in the case it doesn't fit with that plate anyway. I tend to just play with the different plates (6 or more came with it) and find what fits best. There's always the line-in jack also (but the remote will not work then). The remote works only when iPod is docked, not with anything plugged in via the line-in jack.

sound is rather good, 4 stars seems appropriate.
it's just that out of the 9 iPod docking spacers, none fit the 4th generation iPod nano.

This is a great speaker system for the iPod. It is light weight, easily used, good-looking and puts out great sound. The only drawback is that while it will play the newer iPod 8GB Nano, it will not charge it, and it is advertised to do both. I had to send mine back, unfortunately.
