3.0 out of 5 stars Works as advertised; a little much, though
This product is a nice cheap accessory that does one thing and does it well. However, it does add quite a bit of bulk to your mobile device (8525 for me, but I assume the adapter will work with a Blackberry or Motorola phone, too), so it's not something you'll necessarily have attached all the time. My 8525 won't even fit in my leather case while the adapter is on...

This would of been a 5 star item...

The PROS:
1) It supports 3.5mm stereo adapter for your own after market head/earphones.
2) It also supports a usb sync/power adapter so you can charge/sync while listening to your audio

This adapter just simply works; plug in a good pair of head/earphones and use TCPMP (adjust equalizer to your liking) and voila, instant MP3 player for your HTC device (HTCS621 for me). The audio quality is actually quite good and comparable to your iPod, PSP, ZUNE (2nd gen) and of course the iPhone. In fact, using the HTC device (with windows mobile and TCPMP), you can adjust the sound equalizer to truly bring out the best audio compared to ALL the devices listed above. With this device, it really makes the HTC device a true multimedia power house.

THE CONS:
NO way to SPEAK to your party when making voice calls. Audio gets piped thru to your headphones that are connected to the 3.5mm jack however outgoing voice cannot be heard by your party since there's NO MIC (obvious). SPEAKER PHONE DOES NOT WORK while this adapter is plugged in. Alternative is to use an external mic such as the HTC included mic/earphone but you cannot plug it in since the stock HTC mic/earphone plug orientation does not fit the mini-usb on the semson adapter. You are left to unplug the semson adapter to use your phone (for voice conversations). This is a slight problem and the other problem is that even though the adapter is quite small and portable, you could still lose it if you unplug it. Another "adapter" to carry along with your device unless you leave it plugged in all the time (which is still bulky even on the slim HTCS621).

The bottom line:
I was looking around for such a device for the longest time (ebay sold some really poor quality items). I gave this adapter a shot and it paid off.

The adapter is necessary if you wish to use higher quality head/earphones than the stock HTC included set while having an added benefit of an external power source while listening to audio. But if only HTC is smart enough to include a 3.5mm jack, there would be no need for this device!
My recommedation is to BUY IT. It's worth the $ and shipping costs. You won't regret it. Buy it either from SEMSON's own website (google semson usb 3.5mm adapter). It's $1 cheaper ($4.99) but you have to pay a $2.50 shipping fee.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must have for HTC phone owners!, August 29, 2007

This is the first accessory I've bought for my phone (Cingular 8525) that I haven't been disappointed with. It works great, so much better than the ones that hang off the bottom begging to get bent/broken off. Plus it lets you charge your phone while listening, perfect for the car!

Reasonable price, I was a touch concerned that I wasn't buying it directly from Amazon but it arrived the *day after* I placed the order!

5.0 out of 5 stars Works with Sprint Mogul 3.35, April 3, 2008

I am successfully using this adapter to connect a Sprint Mogul (with ROM version 3.35.651.2) to a stereo headset. However, there is a trick to it. I can consistently reproduce positive results when I unplug the 3.5mm minijack from the adapter, unplug the adapter from the device, begin playing music, plug in the adapter and then finally plug the minijack into the adapter.

Simply plugging everything together and going for it does not seem to work for me. Also, once everything is working correctly and I change input (from one internet radio station to another for instance), things stop working. Since this port is intended to be used with a microphone headset, my guess is that the device fails when it can't find the microphone on a regular stereo headset. I have duplicated failed and successful results with a 2.5mm to 3.5mm adapter and with several different stereo headsets.

All that to say that it appears that this adapter is perfectly well constructed and works as advertised. Experienced difficulties might have more to do with the phone than with the adapter.

UPDATE: Other reviews here seem to lend credence to the idea that the lack of a mic on the headset is part of the culprit. For instance, see X. Gao's comments on B. Darling's post here:

5.0 out of 5 stars Best Headphone Adapter Yet, November 21, 2007

I've tried several headphone adapters for my 8525 and so far, this one is the best. No problems with lose connections. It's surprisingly unobtrusive, even when sticking the phone on my pocket. It's a little smaller then it looks in the online pictures and it fits the size of the phone well. You can still get the stylus out with the adapter plugged in, but you have to unplug it to hit the soft reset pin hole. It also obscurs the IR port and the phone microphone, but those haven't been an issue for me.

This is a great idea - -if it works. The one I received is junk. It makes my G1 go insane, jumping from song to song, stopping starting randomly. Switched over to the HTC supplied headphone adapter and it worked fine. Tried the 2-in-1 adapter again, same result. How can something so simple not work? Itis poorly made and obviously no Quality Control in the manufacturing process. Not even worth returning at this price.

4.0 out of 5 stars Handy Little Adaptor, February 6, 2009
This review is from: YS-AUC: 3.5mm Audio Multi-Adapter (Electronics)
This is one of three different adaptors I own for my HTC 8925 (AT&T Tilt). It works great and looks like it belongs on the phone when connected. I have not had any trouble with it as far as the stereo goes. Works great!

I have had some issues with the charger when using power intensive programs (online tv or streaming radio 64Kps+ with GPS running - dont ask why). When the charger is connected, it says it is charging, but doesn't actually charge. It does charge when you are not using the phone for a lot of power hungry applications though like playing mp3's or videos you have on the sd card. Still worth every penny!

4.0 out of 5 stars Works Well, with Modification even on a XV6800, October 30, 2008
This review is from: YS-AUC: 3.5mm Audio Multi-Adapter (Electronics)
I got this knowing it wasn't directly compatible with the XV6800. I wanted a way to use my audio, as well as change and/or sync my phone. Especially in my car, I wanted a 3.5mm jack and be able to use my car charger.

Needless to say, I found this link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=376623&page=2 which showed me how to modify the adapter to fix the htc 6800 flaw people have been experiencing. I bent the appropriate pin down, and cut it off with an hobby knife, and poof... works beautiful 100%.

I don't like the dongle/cord type adapters because they are always too fragile. This looks like its going to stand up to more abuse.

4 stars because, as someone else mentioned, it disabled the microphone so you have to disconnect to to be able to use the phone as a phone. (Which is standard for EVERY adapter I've found).

Cheers!

So, with modification xv6800 works great. Sure it might with other htc 6800s.

2.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't work with 3.35 (newest ROM update for Mogul), March 14, 2008
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: YS-AUC: 3.5mm Audio Multi-Adapter (Electronics)
I've been using this little simple device for months and just updated to the newest 3.35 ROM on the Sprint Mogul and this device no longer works. Rather annoyed because I use it to connect to my AUX jack in my car. I tried it out with some headphones as well to make sure. If you don't want to update to the newest ROM, then its great though and works as advertised.

The earbuds/mic combo that come with the Mogul still work as weell btw, its just this 3.5mm jack. Very annoyed. Grrr! I'm not going to choose this over GPS and Rev A data speed methinks, but how am I going ot listen to tunes in my car now?
