comprehensive i-mode course,
By
This review is from: i-mode Crash Course (Paperback)
An excellent 'crash course' in i-mode. After taking Japan by storm, i-mode no doubt is the coming mobile technology in the US. This book is a well-organized walk through that technology from fundamentals through the future outlook.

[i-mode Crash Course],
By Rodney Van Meter III (Half Moon Bay, CA United States) - See all my reviews
This review is from: i-mode Crash Course (Paperback)
This just might be the worst technical book I own. There is some useful material in it, but it is so poorly written that t's hard to tell. There are non-sentences, some sentences that are impossible to understand even after re-reading, non-sequitirs, and more typos than I have seen in any other book. The text repeatedly says things like, "At present (as of this writing)", without telling you when that is -- and the data given will be at odds with data just a few pages away, which begins with the same disclaimer. The text is also highly repetitive -- how many times do I have to be told that cHTML is just like HTML? The material on WAP is internally inconsistent, and, from what I can tell, outright wrong in places. Many of the pictures appear to be low-resolution images.... I feel the publisher should have had someone redraw pie charts so that the fonts are legible. ... There must be a better one on the topic.

A definitive No-No,
By Markus Hoevener (Emsdetten, Germany) - See all my reviews
This review is from: i-mode Crash Course (Paperback)
As it was one of the first i-mode books available, I didn't expect much - and that's what I got. It seems very unstructured and often provides redundant and inconsistent information.Sometimes it's better to take some time and not to be the first.

The I-mode gospel according to John!!!,
By A Customer
This review is from: i-mode Crash Course (Paperback)
Hallelujah! I'm a true believer in what John says about I-mode. It's the technology of the future...NOW! I just spend 6 months deploying a RIM Blackberry wireless system for my corporation so I know the value this kind of technology brings to an enterprise. But I-mode blows the pants off of it in comparison! I just wish I had his book a few months earlier. However, armed with John's excellent insight and technical grasp of the subject, I feel that I'm ready for the next wave of wireless technology.

Just in time...,

This review is from: i-mode Crash Course (Paperback)
I work for one of the biggest telecommunication company suppliers in the industry and I can tell you two things for sure:1. Wireless networking is where the cash is now, and in the future. 2. There are WAY too many account managers and salespeople in the field who don't have a clue how it works. Enter John Vacca with a simple text to explain it all! John applies his usual technique of applying fluent, easy to read text that's not over-filled with techno-jargon and high assumptions. He covers everything a novice would need to know to approach the wireless I-Mode revolution with confidence and understanding.

**Very** well organized and written book on I-mode,
By
This review is from: i-mode Crash Course (Paperback)
Wonderful book. Terrific content. I read this book knowing absolutely nothing about I-mode. Now I'm ready to call my stockbroker and hedge my bets on I-mode. Mr. Vacca writes a comprehensive content-full book about Japan's current mobile phone phenomenon, I-Mode. The book is very well organized and covers every niche detail about this technology from overview to programming. Six parts breakout the I-mode into fundamentals, developing apps, installation, configuration, market implications, and future strategic directions. This is extremely easy to read and it describes vital concepts for the information and business savvy consultant or professional. It's immensely clear that the global impacts of I-Mode are significant and are already undergoing strategic considerations within the US. 26 million Japanese users can't be wrong!

This remarkably concise tutorial is genuinely useful. The writing is clear, the explanations understandable, the analysis impressive. A technical author who actually knows how to write. Highly recommended if you're considering i-mode.
