The installation was very easy. Be warned that the unit is not all that loud especially in a larger home with basement. Recording your own music to the unit plays back terrible. I tried to run music directly wired and as a recording unit. Both sound is unacceptable as a doorbell. BUT...it is fun to hear the different pre-recorded sounds. Also a lot of fun to change the sounds for holidays and special occasions. I guess the little kid in me wins out and I would buy it again just because it is fun.

Expensive but way kool! I read about sound quality issues when recording your own sounds. I found that turning down the volume on the "Source" a little bit and turning the volume on the iChime all the way up worked great. If you blast a sound byte into the iChime at full volume of course it's going to be distorted when the iChime tries to do the same. You just have to turn the input sound volume down about 30% of full. Trial and error method worked like a charm and I found the "sweet spot" quickly. Now I hear the "Jetson's Doorbell" when someone is at the door! Now, if Amazon only sold the Jetson's push-a-button-get-a-sandwich machines! Who Hoo!

What a great product. On Halloween, when our doorbell is used most often, the kids go nuts! Scary sounds are great fun for little ones.
I do a standing Monday Night Football party and I recorded Hank Williams "...are you ready for some football!" Everything from real door chimes, (wife's favorites), goofball phrases like "...there's someone at the door!" and cool tunes. I set it to cycle through selections so you never know what is next. They're right, ringing my doorbell is no longer the same! Next season I will definitely record the Cal Bears Fight song just to tick off my Stanford friends! This is a well done product, installation was a snap, I replaced my faded "ding dong" bell, same two wire interface as my 35 year old bell, my lighted doorbell button still worked! Does need batteries though but the manual says they will last forever.

There are some very nice features to this doorbell no doubt. Mine stopped working in less than 1 year. Very poor quality.

I am not very handy so I was a little skeptical of installing a wired doorbell, but I must admit it was as easy as they say - just disconnected two wires from the old ding dong and hooked up my new iChime. It's great. There are some really cheesy sounding products out there (I tried one) but the quality of this one is is excellent.
It comes off the wall easily for setup and recording. The built-in sounds are good by themselves but I got it to record my own. I like to experiment with different sounds based on who I know will be coming over. Everyone who hears it wants one! Right now I have it setup to play my six year son saying "I'll be right there!" Should be fun at Christmas time to have it play the built in Holiday songs like Jingle Bells and Deck the Halls.

This item was easy to hook up and provides decent sound quality (just make sure that the music source is of high enough quality i.e. use auxilary speakers as opposed to just the computer speakers).

ichime doorbell is great for the holidays,

I purchased this for Halloween and found that there was enough selections of Halloween effects that it wasn't necessary to record my own but I would like to eventually so I can't give an opinion on the recording quality of ichime. But I do want to stress that if you live in a two-story or big house that you purchase the extra speaker that is optional because the ichime speaker will not cover large areas. That's what I did but it was so my guests could hear the doorbell effect. I put the speaker outside by the front door. After all that's why I purchased it in the first place so as to amuse anyone ringing the doorbell.
It's fun and you'll laugh at the responses you get from your visitors.

Musical Doorbell,

We needed a new doorbell so we thought this one would be fun. So far we put the Halloween tunes on in October--the kids loved it so much that when they came trick or treating they'd ask to push the doorbell again. We have also used the Christmas chimes. It's a nice change from the regular ding, dong! Have yet to try and download any additional tunes to it....

Worst Speaker Quality Ever,

The idea of a programmable doorbell is really great, but the product failed to impress. I tried every way I could to record my own personal chime. I used the external mic and the aux port because I thought the sound would be better that way. I was wrong. The speakers crackle and pop no matter which way you record your tune. I really wanted this product to work, but the chime was too quiet and the speakers were horrible. I sent it back immediately.

Batteries Always Required, Lacking Quality,
By
This review is from: iChime CHIME-1 Doorbell (Tools & Home Improvement)
I was not pleased that you have to have batteries even though the unit is wired to a door bell transformer. Why pay for batteries when its wired to power? A simple diode circuit or power supply circuit and this unit would run on powered wiring. Unit still runs off batteries instead of wiring which is foolish and a waste of money. Set up door bell but could not get it to work with transformer wiring and lighted door bell buttons. Told it was defective. Recorded voice messages via built in mic but sound quality was bad. Recorded again and sound is real hollow even though I was in a good enviroment. Had an electronic door bell before this one and was not pleased with it either as it did not last. Speaker sound on iChime is fine if you keep it low. Turn up the volume and it cracks. Was going to record music but looked at other reviews and didn't waste my time. I don't want to have to take the unit down and replace batteries, I want to install it and have it work. Its a waste of money and landfill space. Bummed that I ordered a spare speaker for the back room and now I don't like nor do I want the unit.
