5.0 out of 5 stars Great Scanner
I got this for my dad for Christmas 2 years ago and its great. We have so many slides that we could never look at and now that they're scanned into his computer, we can look at them any time we want! Brings back some great memories : )
It was very easy to calibrate and use.

1.0 out of 5 stars Total Waste, July 19, 2009

This product was a total waste of time and money. I don't understand how anyone could say that the scanned slides are worth saving or even viewing; they're completely "overexposed" with no way to adjust the brightness (in a way that saves the image--the basics included with the program are mostly useless) without an additional program, not to mention of incredibly poor quality. I know 15+ year old photos/slides/negatives don't hold a candle to new digital technology in terms of color or crispness, but this scanner further damages the quality of these precious memories, which already leave a bit to be desired.

And if you're interested in scanning in your negatives, think again--this thing may be called iCONVERT, but it does no converting besides hard copy to digital. Unless you enjoy looking at blown up versions of creepy looking negatives, don't bother purchasing this product, because it has no driver to convert the negatives to positive images. Lame.

Also, it's very hard to keep the inside of the product clean, even with the little included wand/brush. Those little dust flecks just add to the disappointingly poor quality of the scanned images.

Bottom line: WASTE.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great toy, June 10, 2009
This review is from: iConvert Slide and Negative Scanner (Electronics)
I just got this item and I love it!! I am running windows Vista and I was up and running in about 10 min. You have to install the driver and the picture software. I have made copies of both slides and negatives and both came out fine. You need to check off if you are working in slides or negatives because if you have it set for slides and you do negatives they will not convert to a color picture for you. You need to calibrate each time you change from slides to negatives but that's no big deal because who goes back and forth. The direction it comes with is pretty good. So far I am very satisfied with this unit. The only downfall is it is a bit time consuming since you can only do 3 slides at a time, but that's not the end of the world. Don't let any negative reviews freak you out, this is a decent machine and will get the job done for you.

1.0 out of 5 stars Piece of garbage!, August 10, 2010
This review is from: iConvert Slide and Negative Scanner (Electronics)
I bought this item from Brookstone, thinking it might be of some quality. It worked for a bit, producing enlargements of slides that were of poor quality. I also used it for a few negatives; however, the frame that one must use to pass the negatives through the device is for 35mm only. So if you have some old negatives of any other size, forget it. The unit is flimsily constructed, light-weight, and top heavy. The photo software (ArcSoft) that comes with the driver CD is useful only if you have no other photo browsers. For anyone with any computer and photography knowledge PhotoShop or Corel's Paintshop are preferable. Even the freely downloadable Picasa would be preferable. After a few uses, the unit quit working all together. Now I can't even get rid of it completely from my computer. DO NOT BUY THIS, NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU WANT TO PRESERVE YOUR SLIDES/NEGATIVES. It's a waster of time and money.

1.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, terrible quality, May 9, 2010

I got this for my mom for christmas. The quality was terrible. The photos were washed out and over exposed. She returned it, and is having all of our photos scanned in at costco.

I waited too long to actually use this, so there's no taking it back to Brookstone. The only thing that works is the editing program on the photos that are already on my computer. The scanner doesn't work at all. I'm talking about the iConvert Slide and Negative Scanner that has the blue light on the front.

The included software downloads another editing program but does not convert the slides to photos. I was disappointed.

2.0 out of 5 stars Waste of time and my money purchasing this time, May 9, 2009
This review is from: iConvert Slide and Negative Scanner (Electronics)
I purchased this item as it stated it is compatible with Vista. The manual states it is compatible with Vista. After spending hours trying to get it to work, I called the company tech support. The first thing they told me was that the software needed a patch, and the website to go to. So I did, and spent more of my time trying to get it to work with the patch. I finally gave up, and called tech support again. This time they told me that if I was using Vista 64, the machine wouldn't work. I was using Vista 64. I went to the manual and it states it is compatible with Vista 64. I was told to return it at MY expense. They falsely advertised it was campatible, even put it in the manual, then made ME pay for thier error. I will never do business with them again. No integrity.

1.0 out of 5 stars Negative sanner, January 30, 2011
This review is from: iConvert Slide and Negative Scanner (Electronics)
This is a horrible scanner. It scannes poorly and overexposes the scans leaving you with something it would take forever to adjust. If you had large number of photo's you could not even have the time to scan them let alone the time to do the editeding it would take to fix them up. It only works with Win Xp which at times even locked up. It was a waist of time totally.

1.0 out of 5 stars Bad buy, December 2, 2010
Amazon Verified Purchase(What's this?)
This review is from: iConvert Slide and Negative Scanner (Electronics)
As nearly all other reviews have said, the software does not work. Photo software can not see the twain software. As you may guess the tech support at the photo software company puts the blame on the twain software. I have two other types of photo software that see the Iconvert twain and that works. Problem is that sotware doesn't have film negaitive support. So one slide at a time I have to capture and save the photo, then import the photo into the photo software, then correct the image, and save as a jpeg. If you buy this product good luck.
