Product Description

High-Definition audio like never before. A fantastic dynamic range means more of everything. More detail, more musical, and most of all: more fun. When it's relaxation time - your ears will be treated to a rarefied, luxurious sound. All your music will sound outstanding on the iDAC. Resolution matters. Yet the realism of playback matters more. These are all determined by a number of factors, for example, the USB interface technology, power supply quality, and the analogue output stage. The iDAC uses a highly-advanced Asynchronous/Jitterless USB interface (trickle-down technology from AMR's high-end audio equipment) to give not just good, but perfect audio transfer. With 3 dedicated internal power supplies, they provide a clean environment for the DAC to produce high-resolution audio. Augmented by the ESS Hyperstream Chipset - typically reserved for expensive high-end audio equipment, music reproduction is startling realistic. Along with standard RCA outputs you also get a powerful 150mW headphone amp and an analog volume control used for heaphone listening.

Being a woman, I'm not entirely savvy when it comes to electronics. My husband set one of these up for me to listen to while I work, and I have to say, it makes music much more enjoyable. When I close my eyes, I can picture the musicians playing their instruments. I'm hearing a lot of things that I have never heard before in my music. I've never enjoyed listening to music through headphones before as much as I do now through this iDAC Micro. Women, you may want to make your husband set it up, but you will enjoy it! Even I can tell the difference.

This is a fantastic DAC. I have used it in desktop settings as well as in a full system, and it fits both settings perfectly. Small enough to fit in a laptop bag and large/heavy enough to sit where it is without being flipped by a heavy USB cord. I see another review claiming that it is not small enough for portable settings. It all depends on if you want a $200, plastic DAC that sounds OK, or a quality unit that is twice as big, but 10x more musical! I have heard many, many other DACS in the price range, and this one is by far in the top of its class.

-Great build quality
-Easy to use
-Fantastic, balanced range
-Versatile for use with headphones or a full system

Overall, an awesome product! I'm very happy with it, and I would definitely recommend.

What can I say the five stars doesn't already say. The unit showed up quickly. The packaging might even make an Apple iPhone jealous. The install went effortless. The most important feature, sound quality, fantastic! It improved the sound coming from my PC to the point that it was easy to hear. There is no going back to my sound card and I had a very high end sound card. The improvement is a very sophisticated ESS Sabre DAC chip and moving the processing away from the noisy PC. This processing away from the PC allows the jitter to become extremely low and jitter is one of the banes of digital audio. I am using this with a pair of self powered JBL series 3 mini-monitors. These are really excellent sounding speakers so they really benefit form the iDAC. Now I am ripping my CD collection to FLAC so I can really enjoy this set up. I recommend if you go this route to pick up decent cables. You don't have to go too crazy but do not skimp. I have only used the unit as a headphone amp once to see how it sounded since I don't like music too close to my ears. The headphones I used need power to really bring out the best in them and this unit played them really well so when I go on future trips where I might bring headphones along I will definitely bring this DAC/ headphone amp also.

I recently bought some Beyerdynamic T1 Tesla headphones, my old Audioquest DragonFLY Audio Converter (DAC). After reading some reviews on head-fi.org I decided to give it a try.

Pros: Volume Dial; Clean Neutral Audio without any hissing.
Cons: Wish it had a larger headphone connector was 1/4", kind of a brick in the middle of your setup.

P.S. I tried these with my regular Apple Headphones that came with my iPhone and they are still just as fantastic.

Update: It stopped working abruptly after an update to Yosemite 10.1.1 tried different USB cables :(
