A different type of muisc but a Good Different.,
By GT (usa) - See all my reviews
This review is from: iDon (Audio CD)
I just bought the CD due to seeing Fast and Furious the movie then purchasing the album listening to Virtual Diva. I found out this Album came out on April 28, 09 so I went out an purchased it. There were only a few copies left so I got lucky.
Now I don't like a lot of types of music but this CD has amazed me. I like how they put the dance/ techno music into it also they made it futuristic. In my personal opinion Don Omar has created a masterpiece that is unlike any album currently out there to purchase. He tried something new in his music and it sounds great I have no complaints about this CD at all. If I were you I would go get this CD ASAP before stores run out.

Don't know why so many bad reviews,
By Josué Salvá (Puerto Rico, USA) - See all my reviews

The album is awesome its very different and futuristic. I don't know why so many bad reviews, Don Omar tried something different this time and it actually works. This type of music can be a hit in any part of the world so I don't see the big deal of some people here.

Virtual Diva itself couldn't be any better. Love it. I give it a five star rating. I've listened only to some of the CD so far and it is pretty good. So, I give the overall CD a four star rating. And, I don't know Spanish.

A Little Different,
By Roberto Carlos Martinez (Author) (Woodbridge, VA USA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: iDon (Audio CD)
The one thing I can say about Don Omar is he is willing to take risks and he gets a lot of respect for that. He could have made another pure Reggaeton album just to sell records, but instead he chooses to make something totally different. His last album redefined Reggaeton with hits like "Angelito" and "Salio El Sol." Who could listen to "Salio El Sol" and not think of some type of beach setting and then you see the music video and you think "how did come up with that?"
When I listen to this album I can honestly says there is no other album I can compare it to. As far as the way the album compares to the rest of his stuff, I can honestly say the process reminds me of Erykah Badu's "Worldwide Underground." It was so different at the time from the prior stuff she had done, but it kept the essence of who she is an an Artist. Don mar has done the same thing here. Now, "Worldwide Underground" is a classic and I think "idon" will be a classic in its own right, The stand out track without a doubt is "Virtual Diva" This album for most won't be one of those albums you pick up and love, but it grows on you. "Oasis" and "Sexy Robotica" are some of the strongest tracks on the album. "How We Roll" is pretty great, almost sounds like A T-pain track. It's not as bad as most put it. I think it's great to see musical artists who are trying something different.

Some of these comments remind me of the weeping and wailing 40 years ago when Bob Dylan dared to pick up an electric guitar. Sorry, but as earthily fantastic as 'classic' reggaeton is, the beat's constaints are not going to imprison an artist like Don Omar forever. BTW, it's not just D.O. rebelling against the limitations, it's Wisin y Yandel, DY, and Franco - all of them are putting out products with more orchestral and dance-fusion elements. The future of urban music is more down the NY style bachata path than of old school reggaeton, imo. Watch the new Aventura album blow away the competition this summer, and that includes that of Wizin y Yandel. D.O. with 'idon' has already blown away last summer's Daddy Yankee fusion.
When D.O. put out "canicon de amor' and collaborated with Aventura on 'ella y yo' the path was already taken. D.O. is the 'reye' of the romantic vision in reggaeton and I salute him for his soul and poetry, in whatever form it takes. There are some great songs on this album - Robotica, Chosen, and Diva chief among them, and this is a techno-stage in the Artist's development we should all applaud. Face it, with his movie star good looks, athlete's build, in-your-face masculinity, passion for life and relentless ambition, D.O. is not going to be held back by a beat - he's on his way to much bigger and better things, but don't count on the composer and singer of 'Reggaeton Latino' to ever lost his gritty roots. Like Dylan, he'll ceaselessly experiment but always stay true to himself. This beautiful man is a force of nature, this album just another delightful storm in his sea of limitless talent. |
