As a cardiologist, I have used this machine over the past five days, taking a manual blood pressure, and then using the iHome blood pressure machine on my patients. I admit surprise in that the machine is very accurate. In one patient (with a thick shirt on) it was 10mmHg off, but otherwise, it is ususally within 5mmHg of my independent reading.

The machine does have a waveform in the screen, that may be useful for patients with atrial fibrillation. It shows a regular pulse formation on the screen with sinus rhythm.

The machine is powered by USB. I have it attached to a computer, but with a adapter, it can likely be plugged into the wall.

I like it so much, I am going to buy another! Note -- older patients should not purchase a wrist monitor as blood vessels can become calcified and readings may be elevated.

The best blood pressure monitor that I have found.

First, compact base stand with dock for your iPhone or iPad
Second, contrary to another review, the base is battery powered and you recharge it every couple of weeks from your computer's USB port or directly from your Apple USB Power Pack
Third, good testing functionality with continuous visual readout of your heartbeat and blood pressure variation
Fourth, data storage for at least 1,000 readings including heartbeat trace, and user adjustable for more.
Fifth, immediate evaluation and color-coded classification of your results relative to standard guidelines
Sixth, graphical display of your test results for comparison over time.
Seventh, ability to export your results as data or graphic (by screenshot) by email to your doctor or others as you may wish.
Eighth, ability to add prior data manually to provide a complete long-term record.

In summary, easy to use, good visual readouts, full data storage, intelligent use of iPhone / iPad capabilities.

Is it perfect ? No. Improvements could include : WiFi connection instead of docking (see Withings WiFi Weigh Scale); time-based horizontal axis on graphical display instead of just sequential data points (again, see Withings charting); ability to export .csv data file for backup instead of just data table for sharing; ability to restore or add data from .csv backup file.

Some of those just require an app upgrade. The WiFi version would require a new base station, but it could be much smaller and readily pocket-portable.

We have had this little gem for a few days, and have used it numerous times to check mine and my wife's BP. She's a nurse, and she has her own hand-pump sphygmomanometer and stethoscope and this has allowed us to check the accuracy of the iHealth: we have found it to be accurate to within ONE point, which is well within the variation of any instrument.

My wife struggles to take her own BP with her standard manual setup, but with the iHealth it's a piece of cake. Sit down, relax, put the cuff on, push the "Start" button and wait 20 seconds or so. That's it.

The cuff seems well made, and it is easy to fit to my larger arms and my wife's smaller arms.

Why not 5 stars? Well, it would be nice if the software exported the data in a CSV or other useable format, so it could be easily imported into Excel or some other more powerful charting program. It would also be an improvement if the cord connecting the cuff to the cradle was longer - as it is you have to place the dock/cradle very, very close to where you're sitting, and even then, you run the risk of accidentally yanking the entire assembly off the table or whatever you're using. In addition, I had to buy a dock extender to enable the use of my iPhone 4 inside its Seidio Convert case, but holding the iHealth to blame for that isn't totally fair - I have yet to find ANY dock that would accommodate the Convert case.

All in all we are very pleased with our purchase. I'll report back later after we've run it through its paces a little more.

My blood pressure was always high at the Dr office so I bought this for regular readings outside his office. The Ihealth readings were always saying my pressure was normal. Because Ihealth kept track of my readings (the major reason I bought it) I brought my IPhone to the Dr's office so he could evaluate the results.

Since Ihealth results were drastically different the My Drs, he asked I bring the device to him to compare Ihealth results with his. The Ihealth was so far off each time we took my blood pressure it surprised, and disappointed me. I bought this to stay healthy and it did just the opposite, it mislead me. That day the Dr put me on blood pressure medication that will probably save my life.

Thinking maybe my device might need recalibration I emailed Ihealth, explaining it wasn't accurate and asking their advice. They never responded. I emailed again explaining it wasn't accurate and asking if a software update could be needed and again no response from Ihealth.

I then emailed (using my wife's email) that I bought a new iPhone5 and the device couldn't be connected due to IPhone changing the adapter plug on the new IPhone. That email they responded to recommending I go to an IPhone store for an adapter.

Then I emailed them from my email address again mentioning the I accuracy of the product and again they never responded. Now I knew for sure they won't respond to accuracy issues.

So I called. I recommend everyone interested in this product to call them and choose customer support. No one EVER answers. I've called three times and left three messages explaining it isnt accurate and asking for recommendations and each time they failed to call me back.

So, based on my experience, I would never recommend this product.
