Free iHome Sleep app download offers custom alarms, sleep stats, social media alerts, weather, overnight news and more. You can even wake to internet radio with the paid iHome Radio app. The flexible rotating dock lets you watch videos in landscape mode. You can charge and play your iPhone or iPod and wake and sleep to either one. A convenient Sync button syncs the clock to your iPhone (which is always current via cell phone towers) to set the time quickly. Remote control included. The iA63 is an impressive technology and an exceptional audio experience all in one.

Rotating Dock

Enjoy your music and videos in landscape or portrait mode while keeping your iPhone or iPod fully charged. Being able to switch you iPhone or iPod back and forth from landscape or portrait gives you more options when either watching a movie or just listening to music.

I bought the iHome iA63 (also called the iHome iA63BZ; I'm not sure if there's a distinction or not) for my 11-year old son. I was looking for an alarm clock for him that was on the small side, had a remote control, decent sound, could charge his iPod, one that would allow him to watch his iPod hands-free horizontally, and one that would wake him up. I didn't know those were my requirements for a clock for him until I'd bought him a different iPod charging alarm clock from another company at Christmas. That one had no remote, it was bulky and ugly, and there was no way to view movies on it. I returned that one and told him we'd wait until something came along that was a better fit for him. It was a lot to ask for, but I'm glad we waited.

In the box, you get the alarm clock, AC adapter, a button cell battery for the alarm clock to keep your settings in case of a power outage, and the tiny remote. I think the remote already had its own battery in it, but if not, it came with one.

This is not a "pretty" alarm clock when an iPod/iPhone isn't attached. It looks kind of like a weird speaker or a miniature black bandshell, with a big circular gap taking up 80% of its face. But, when the iPod is attached, and especially when it's attached and you have the iHome+Sleep app on your screen (or a movie), I think it looks techie-sexy (but still appropriate for an 11 year old).

APPS FOR THE iHOME ALARM CLOCK:

iHOME+SLEEP (free, pretty darn necessary)
You're going to need the iHome+Sleep app to take full advantage of the alarm clock's functions. This is probably a no-brainer to previous iHome users, but we're new to this so I was surprised we had to download something to properly use a clock. The iHome+Sleep app is available for FREE through iTunes.

Package Type: Standard Packaging Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I have an iphone 4 that I have an otterbox defender case on. Until now, every time I wanted to charge my phone or listen to music, I had to either use the cable and plug it in or take off the case and set it in a charger. While not the end of the world, it was a bit of an inconvenience.
I had the opportunity to try this iHome iA63 and figured that like all the others, I would need to take off the case to use it. Well I was wrong...it works great with the case on. Without a doubt, that is the best feature of this product and almost in itself warrants a 5 star rating in my book, however, there is one fault that everyone looking for a speaker system for their ipod/iphone will want. The sound is a little muffled and you really need to turn up the volume to hear more than 10 feet away. The rotating dock is fine if you want to watch something on your phone but since I have this at home, I would rather watch my TV, so this feature isnt necessary to me. The digital clock is very easy to read and the alarm works nice but I would expect that of an alarm clock anyway.
So to summarize, I recommend this product especially if you have a case around your phone.

Package Type: Standard Packaging Vine Customer Review of Free Product ( What's this? )
I got this radio for free (thanks, Amazon Vine!) but I'd return it if I could. It has great speaker sound, a nifty "rotate by 90 degrees" button, integrated alarm and FM radio that work fine even without downloading the free "iHome+Alarm" app, and nice features like a buzzer that you can set to buzz progressively louder instead of starting at full volume. It's a hair on the large side and a bit ugly when your iPod isn't in place. But the thing that drives me absolutely bonkers is a note in the instructions that says "insert your iPod at a 15 degree angle from the back" and THEY'RE NOT KIDDING. Sometimes you put your iPod on the unit and it works beautifully right off the bat. But if that angle is even the tiniest bit off, it will say "this accessory is not supported by your iPod" and then you'll have to try repeatedly to get it just right. I don't have this issue with any of my other iPod docking stations, and I assumed that "15 degrees" thing was just a general idea, but apparently the people who designed this alarm think human beings are interchangeable with robotic protractors and will never commit the fatal flaw of inserting it at an unthinkable 18 or 12 degrees instead of 15 :-/

One other thing that annoys me more the longer I have this system, is that the clock MUST be positioned lower than your head in order to be legible (so a nightstand might work but a dresser won't); otherwise you see a bright horizontal strip of light above the clock time (sort of like there's a black paper covering the light inside the unit, but it doesn't reach the whole way up). On the nights i'm more sensitive to light, it's enough to keep me from sleeping. On the nights when I'm not as sensitive, it's still bright enough that my eyes can't adjust well enough to read the relatively-dim clock time.

This unit is very nice. It DOES what it says it does.

That said - I have a few comments.

Sound Quality - This is the thing that I always look for first when I'm deciding on a dock, and many reviewers give vague (if any) comment about it. This unit is designed to be an advanced clock-radio - NOT an audiofiles dream machine. In that, the sound quality is much better than I expected. Perfect for my use (I have it on my desk at work so I can listen/watch things while I'm working). Much better than your average clock-radio - but if you're expecting "Bose" sound or super deep base - this is not your unit. I am more than satisfied with the sound. Just be aware that you're buying an alarm clock, NOT a THX movie system.

Functionality - The clock sync is awesome. Makes time setting LITERALLY as easy as pushing a button. The rotate feature CLEARLY makes the unit great - it's so hard to find docks DESIGNED to let you view things in horizontal mode. I can put my iPhone into the dock WITH it's protective cover (moshi glaze)on! This sets the unit apart from ALL other docks I've had. The side adjustment for width is great - there is no depth adjustment, but you don't need it since the connector is designed to flex to accomodate width. BEWARE, however - if you have one of the old gen 5.5 ipods, I don't think they'll fit (they are much thicker than any of the others). SECOND BEWARE - My iPhone 3gs fits nicely with it's moshi glaze ON, but just barely. I don't think the connector will accomodate larger protective covers (like otterbox for example).

The unit is designed to work with iHome+Sleep (free) or iHome+Radio (not free) software. I downloaded iHome+Sleep and I find it a little user UNfriendly.
