Not fancy but nice.,
This review is from: iHome iH14D AM/FM Table Radio and Speaker Dock for iPod (Brown) (Electronics)
I bought this iHome product a few weeks ago. No one on the Internet has reviewed it yet so I thought I'd take a swing at it.
Pros: 1. The cost- It is probably one of the least expensive iPod speakers on the market. It cost me around $50.00 (I didn't buy it on Amazon). As a result it doesn't have many extras (see below) but, like I said it doesn't cost that much. 2. The looks- It's actually a pretty nice looking little unit almost retro. I like the big dial on it. It looks sharp wherever you put it. I've only found it in black (I have a white ipod) but that not a big deal for me. 3. Good sound- I'm not an audiophile and this isn't a huge stereo system. However, it puts out good sound for the one speaker. The radio (AM and FM) also sound good. 4. Charges the iPod well- Enough said. (It does say on the manual that it does not charge the 3rd generation iPods. However, my iPod is fairly new and if your iPod is that old maybe it's type for an upgrade anyway.) 5. Light and easy to carry- Again enough said. Cons: 1. Not many extras- No remote control (if you have an iPod dock you can run the dock though the auxiliary jack and use the apple remote. However you need to unplug the auxiliary jack if you want to use any other feature on the unit.) As I said, it comes with an auxiliary jack and cord. I plugged in a little Memorex mp3 player and it sounds great. No video out jack. No clock or alarm. It does come with adapters for just about any iPod. 2. Antennas- The FM antenna is a wire that comes ouf the back of the ipod. There is a place to tuck it in if you don't need it extended. The AM antenna is plastic and plugs into the back of the unit. It's not that hard to remove it if you are going to carry it but it would better if the antennas on the unit were built in. The manufacturer needs to do a better job with this feature. Overall- If you want something with a ton of features that will blast your music and make the walls shake, this is is not the unit for you. However, if you want something that's fairly inexpensive, looks nice and puts out decent sound this might be a unit to look at.

nice BASS sound,
This review is from: iHome iH10B AM/FM Table Radio and Speaker Dock for iPod (Black) (Electronics)
i just bought the iH10 for my wife to use in her classroom and had a day or so to check it out at home. this thing has great bass response and overall loudness for a box this size. must be something about the depth of the box, because we listened to many other types of docking stations that were flatter in design, but also flatter in sound. it docks our "old" photo ipod with no problems and even docked my iphone (after i turned on the airplane feature). it comes with adapters to dock the smaller ipods and even a cable to connect all other types of mp3 players or cd players. what i really like is the analog radio dial. it even got npr very well. i recommend the black unit. the wood one looks fake to me and cheapens it. the white one looks horrid to me, maybe for a kid's room that has a black and white theme or something. it doesn't have a clock, but then this is not a clock radio. anyway your ipod has a clock on it. great for a bedroom or a classroom.

Surprisingly Good Sound!,

This review is from: iHome iH10B AM/FM Table Radio and Speaker Dock for iPod (Black) (Electronics)
I have been looking at table radios for quite some time. I have listened to the Tivoli Model One and Model Two. I have listened to the Bose Wave, the Boston Acoustic Recepter, a Cambridge Soundworks, and a Sony table radio. They are all great products and were all good sounding in their own unique way. The tuning and reception varied, however, from model to model, not to mention the sticker shock - these radios get expensive!
In my online searching, I came across the iHome IH10B and was very intrigued by the good reviews. I also wanted something with aux in, and iPod capabilities. The price seemed too good to be true, especially after looking at the brands mentioned above. I decided I would take a chance on the iHome IH10B- I couldn't resist the low price (about $40 including shipping). It turned out to be an excellent choice! This radio is nothing short of amazing. It has excellent AM and FM reception. I love the analog tuner. The build quality is very nice. The sound quality is excellent across the board with very nice bass response and a very natural sound overall. It sounds as good playing classical music as it does rock and country. AM radio sounds amazingly good. This radio competes very well with the higher priced radios. It sounds great and looks great too. I might just buy another one I like it so well!

I would completely agree with what the other person said about this unit. The sound is actually the best I've heard from a small system like this in this price range. Yeah it's not as long as some of the others but the sound itself is pretty good. If you like to actually hear your lows and your highs and are willing to deal with a lack of extras this is for you. I like to hear everything in the music which is why I picked this one. You can get from some stores for a little cheaper than here though.

Nice, simple, and very affordable little radio/ipod player. Definitely better than more expensive models available at Best Buy and other retailers, plus it comes with a good AM/FM radio. I use mine for the office and my only complaint/suggestion would be that it's difficult to control the volume when you want the volume very low...meaning the volume dial is very sensitive when you get down to very low volume. Not a big deal in the long run. The large tuning dial is a nice feature and certainly beats the smaller dials of older radios. Also comes with a separate AM antenna which is nice. This is great for an office if you are looking for a solid, no frills speaker.

Great IPOD docking station and AM/FM Radio,
By
This review is from: iHome iH10B AM/FM Table Radio and Speaker Dock for iPod (Black) (Electronics)
For the past few months I had been looking for a docking station for my IPOD. I ordered two and both were a disappointment. One looked like a childs toy and the other one did not play my videos on my TV. Anyways, I came across this small docking station at a local store and I bought it, I figured, for the price, it will be worth a try! The picture in the box looked nice and took it home. I was very impressed to hear the sound quality on this docking station, it was even better than the previous docking stations that I had bought for over $70 each. The sound, the looks, and the price it is more than what I expected. I am actually looking for a second one to place in my bedroom. I will recommend it to anyone who is looking for a small, no so expensive, good quality sound docking station...and the great thing about it is that is also a radio!

Retro radio meets the iPod,
By
This review is from: iHome iH14D AM/FM Table Radio and Speaker Dock for iPod (Brown) (Electronics)
I had to give this radio a try given the price. I live in a small apartment and am trying own fewer things. So I decided that I really just needed a radio/ipod player and could skip all the other features that make most players cost more.
Pros: - The sound is incredible. Really. The full dynamic range seems to represented very well. It goes louder than I would ever want to play it, and I don't notice any static/noise when playing from the ipod. From the radio, yes, but I think that's just the radio. - Small footprint. - Few dials. - Feels solid and looks great. - The ipod (nano) feels secure on its perch even when I'm playing with the control. - No remote to lose. Cons: - Huge adapter. - No presets. Not a problem for me, but might be annoying to others.

Simple & Stylin',

This review is from: iHome iH10B AM/FM Table Radio and Speaker Dock for iPod (Black) (Electronics)
If you're looking for a basic radio-ipod/mp3 player this is your best bet.
I got it for my office where I needed something simple... I didn't need an alarm clock, remote, or display. I can get the time other ways and I can figure a radio dial. PROS - Very good range of sound. Quiet as a cricket and it can put out loud quality. The depth of the box might have something to do w/ this as another review had pointed out. - Looks are everything (Especially w/ a black ipod)! Looks & operates old school w/ the mp3 technology... gotta love it. - Decent AM/FM radio reception. Love the radio dial. CONS (Wishes) - Changing songs on an ipod you have to lightly brace the ipod (so connection to radio wont be damaged IMO). Would've been nice to have the play/pause, forward, and reverse buttons on the box. - Would've been awesome to have been portable, needs AC power. - Headphone jack in the back (minor), would've possibly taken away from the looks. Browse around for a good price, well worth the $50 but could be a bargain if you find it a bit cheaper.

I've had this system for about 3 weeks now and really love it. The radio reception and tuner produce a clear crisp sound - as good as digital. I'm using it with the newest iPod nano and it works great. The speaker produces a full range of sound, from crisp highs to pretty good bass. I'm glad I chose it.

I bought the iHome IH10B for my daughter to use to charge her iPod and so that she could listen to it in her room. It has a cool retro look. However, the sound quality and reception leave a lot to be desired. The sound is "scratchy" and sounds like an old transistor radio (circa 1965). I know because I had one then. It has two external antennas: one for FM and one for AM. The FM antenna is a single coiled wire. The AM antenna is a loop attached by wire. I haven't seen this type of antenna on a tabletop radio is ages. Neither antenna is much good. The reception is awful.
One would expect that the sound from the iPod would be better than the radio, but it is not. Stay away! |
