I bought this receiver at a local big box store, it worked for 15 days, just fine, and one day it got a red light of death. It would dimly light a red LED, and would not respond, even while attached to USB power. It died 1 day after the return policy of the big box store ended. I wasn't going to screw around with contacting the manufacturer to get this thing going again. Refusing just to let it die, I opened it up, which was quite easy to do, and replaced the battery with a higher quality one (needs to be soldered). It has since been working perfectly, I think they produced these with low buck batteries, and they die quickly, or develop an internal short. This device will not function without a battery.

I will agree that the range is not quite as large as they advertise, but this is also relative to the transmitting device. This works great for me in the truck as well as in the house and at the pool. I am buying a couple more so I don't have to keep moving this one from place to place. I tried the Brookstone version and it has no battery and the range is FAR worse! I am using this with a Samsung Galaxy S4.

Do not buy this. Bought one and charged it over night and it worked great the next day to stream audio. Charged it again after it died and it would never work again. The lights wouldn't come on and nothing would make it work. Thinking it was just a defective one bought another and planned to return the first... but now the second one did the exact same thing. Worked fine for one day and next day wouldn't do anything. There is a red light that glows just faintly when the power button is pressed, but other than that nothing. It won't work even when plugged in and "charging." Also, the cord that came with it to charge doesn't actually work -- tried using it to charge something else and to move files from a phone to computer and it wouldn't do anything. Tried charging with a different cord and the iLive still doesn't work. GARBAGE.

This bluetooth wireless receiver worked ok for about a week and then stopped working. The range is not anywhere near 33 feet. The range is maybe 15 feet.

This receiver works great for a while, but I have had a total of 3 die on me within a few months of purchase. I can see why the reviews are so evenly split between good and bad (assuming units with good reviews have not failed yet).

The first unit that I bought never worked, so I exchanged it. The new exchange worked very well, so I bought a second so that I could keep one at home and one in the car. Unfortunately, within a few months, both units stopped working completely. Neither comes on even after charging overnight. It's a shame because I really enjoyed the convenience of a Bluetooth receiver, but it's no good if it is going to break so quickly.

plugged this up to my Yamaha amp and sent my music from my cell phone
in 2 min and could not get over the clarity in such a small package
range seemed fine but it has a built in battery for mobility so will see about
the longevity of that but it also works plugged in. It is a usb plug

I found this on clearance at a store.
It was perfect. I have an old school stereo, tape player, CD player. I use the cassette adapter with a headphone plugin to connect my phone or iPod to and have music play over the system that way. But then I found this Bluetooth adapter that has the headphone jack. So now, the cassette adapter is plugged into the iLive adapter and I can keep my phone with me while still listening to music on my amazing sounding speakers. There's no distortion, and I loved the rechargeable option for the adapter.
Then, I think the adapter was left to charge one too many times, or I let the juice go out completely, I'm not sure but it just stopped charging one day. None of the lights would come on, it was just completely dead.
I opened it up and the battery was puffy, so obviously the battery pooped out.
I had an idea I didn't know if it would work or not but I figured if it was kaput anyway, no harm.
I clipped the wires leading to the battery, and removed the battery.
Then snapped the adapter back together. I plugged in the charger just as I would have to charge it up, and the lights came on although the charging indicator blinked and didn't know what to do with itself. Then I plugged in some headphones, connected the adapter to my phone just as I normally would, and it works the same now, with no battery, so long as it's plugged into the wall charger!!
So, it's no longer mobile, I used to also use it for yardwork so my phone would get dirty, but for the stereo it is working just like it always did!
I have since gotten Bluetooth headphones for yardwork and exercise, and they are awesome!
This adapter is great to turn old machines into modern Bluetooth receivers.
I've been using the adapter with no battery for one year now with no issues.

good price. Works with my 5.1 speaker system, and is set up easily and quickly. Would work good with any blue tooth source. I use it with my computer, and it wirelessly receives the music and puts it into my speaker system. The price I paid is cheaper than Walmart.
