4.0 out of 5 stars A good buy for some decent speakers
When to buy this product:

Buy this product if you just want some decent audible sound. It cost less that $50.00 so you can't go wrong. Basically it turns your iPod into a middle of the road sounding Boom box. It's good to put in places like the Kitchen, the bedroom, or even in the office cubicle. The remote is nice to have also. (You don't have full...

2.0 out of 5 stars At least the charger works
Only buy this item if you desperately want to listen to your ipod out loud. The remote control I received did not work right out of the box. It will control the power and volume of the unit but will not pause, skip, or repeat tracks on the ipod. Sound quality is barely passable. No bass and no highs, only a muddy sounding midrange. The only thing I could compare it to...

4.0 out of 5 stars A good buy for some decent speakers, November 10, 2006

This review is from: GPX iLive ISPK2806 iPod Speakers with Remote Control & Dock for iPod, Mini, Shuffle, and Nano (1G) (Electronics)

(You don't have full functionality with this remote. Just: volume, pause, and skip, no back and forward through menus.)
All and all I feel like it's a great accompaniment to my Nano.

When NOT to buy this product:

Don't buy this product in the hopes of turning your iPod into your home sound system. This product has very little bass to speak of. Don't buy this product for use with the First Gen. iPod Shuffle. Regardless of what the package says, IT DOES NOT WORK WITH THE FIRST GENERATION IPOD SHUFFLE. This product produces sound that is nice for background effect i.e. I sometimes put it in the bathroom while showering. It is not suitable to be the main feature in your home sound system.

So if you read this and taken it all into consideration, go right ahead and confidently purchase this product. I think you'll like it.

This is a fine product for the money. Be aware, though, that there is no battery power option; it works on AC only. The sound I would rate a B -- don't expect very high quality or deep bass response (It's far better than my dinky computer speakers, at least.) The remote worked fine; all functions responded up to 10 feet away which is as far as I've sat from the unit. The instructions are typical overseas-translation awful; you have to figure out how to work this one yourself, which is not a problem since the operation is simple. (The mysterious plastic shield is meant to be used as a support for the ipod or nano once it's inserted into the dock.) All in all, I'm happy I can play my ipod on a reasonably good sounding unit, but will probably spring for a second-generation operator that offers battery power and better speakers.

The only thing I could compare it to are the small, handheld transistor radios that were popular in the seventies. The charger dock works fine but will not charge my ipod with a protective rubber sleeve on it. It also has a cool blue light that shines behind your ipod when the unit's power is on. It's a shame about the sound quality and the faulty remote because the unit itself is nice and heavy and feels very solid. If you have any other alternatives, I would advise to skip this one.

I bought this speaker set-up so that I could listen to my iPod in the kitchen. It works just fine. No, it doesn't have the sound of an expensive unit, but for $49 bucks I have no complaints. I can put my iPod Mini on shuffle, and enjoy the tunes while I'm cooking dinner or eating breakfast. If you want home theatre sound, buy something else. But if you just want to hear your music without paying a lot of money, you'll be very pleased with this unit. I am.

4.0 out of 5 stars Worth the purchase, November 9, 2006
This review is from: GPX iLive ISPK2806 iPod Speakers with Remote Control & Dock for iPod, Mini, Shuffle, and Nano (1G) (Electronics)
This docking system works wonderfully for the sake of room to room mobility. I did find a similar docking station which included a clock radio at a discount store for the same price. However, once the clock/alarm is set, you don't want to move it around the house because you have to keep re-setting the clock. The only drawback to this dock is your iPod, Nano, etc. will not charge well with a skin or other protective covering.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good for the Price, December 13, 2006

I picked this up locally for about the same price. We were looking for something just to play music for entertainment purposes. It does the job. It offers nice background music. The remote works great the unit fits my nano perfectly. We are happy with the sound, for what we wanted it for. We like the fact we can move it to other places and we wanted it to work off a power source rather than a battery so it would charge the nano.

Reason for 4 not 5 stars... When we placed it near our other entertainment equipment there was more interference (static) and we could not adjust the volume manually or with the remote. We moved it away from ther other entertainment equipment and it worked fine. Not sure what that was all about. Also, when you turn the unit off, the i-pod stays on, but since it is plugged in to a power source it is charging.

GREAT BUY

3.0 out of 5 stars O.K. sound, remote control functions erratic, September 23, 2006

Picked this up for $39.95 locally. Sound is o.k., but nobody will confuse it for a decent sound system. Sounds like a fair-to-good clock radio. It is a convenient docking station that also charges the unit. It has an auxiliary input and a video output jack on the back.

My big problem was that the remote control unit would turn the power off and and control the volume, but would not pause or skip the iPod itself (I have a 4gb Nano). Also, when it turned the speaker unit's power off it left the iPod on. I suspect that there are better values for the money out there, but if you don't need particularly high-quality sound (and can get the remote control to work) this isn't a bad deal for $40. Mine's going back to the store.

1.0 out of 5 stars Terrible sound... don't understand how people can say good things about it, April 19, 2007
This review is from: GPX iLive ISPK2806 iPod Speakers with Remote Control & Dock for iPod, Mini, Shuffle, and Nano (1G) (Electronics)
This is a sincere comment on this product, and my first one ever. I bought it and I was excited to try it out in my bedroom. The unit looks pretty nice and for the price it definitely felt like a good deal.

However, the bass sound is absolutely terrible... I did read about this in another review, but I didn't expect that it would be this bad.

I actually checked the EQ setting of my iPod to make sure it wasn't in a "bass boosting" mode or anything like that. I was hoping that if I turned it off I'd get an OK sound and I'd not have to go through the trouble of returning it.

My advice: * Don't buy this product *

It's the only way we can tell these companies (on the market just for the money) that they cannot just have a good external "fashion" design and a good marketing campaign that they will fool us and make money.

2.0 out of 5 stars Not quite, July 6, 2006
This review is from: GPX iLive ISPK2806 iPod Speakers with Remote Control & Dock for iPod, Mini, Shuffle, and Nano (1G) (Electronics)
Even for the price, I still wouldn't suggest this one. Spend the extra bit of money and get good speakers. I needed to put the "bass booster" equilizer on on my iPod mini so that it would sound decent. It doesn't come with any adapters for different iPods (mini, nano, video, etc.), you can only have one device plugged in at once (CD player and ipod. it will not play the ipod), and the remote is second to useless. Spend the bit of money and get good speakers. The JBL OnStage iPod Speakers are superb, even for inexpensive speakers. If you don't want to pay that much, get regular old speakers.

I saw one of these in a store for over $50 and it looked interesting. So I went on line and bought one. It arrived in three days and I use it in my home office. It worked so well, that I went on line and bought a second unit for the kitchen and to take to our lake place. Now my kids have seen and really like them and will be buying their own for their homes. It is a fabulous deal, especially at this price.
