When I received the item, I unpacked it & installed the batteries. I connected my daughter's iPod and the sound quality was good. There could have been more volume, but it was ok. There wasn't any bass or treble adjustments on this. I liked how the iPod songs could be forwarded & skipped via the buttons on the dock itself. I carefully repacked it & wrapped it for a Christmas gift. When my daughter opened it, she liked it. But when she tried to listen to the radio, it was all static. The next day, the radio portion would work, and then quit again. So, I ended up returning it to the store where I bought it. This was a very bacic, no-frills type of unit, but in fairness, the price was very low as well. If the unit worked as designed, we would have kept it.

I wish I bought this along time ago. I now use it to play My ipod outside and in the house. Speaker could be louder, but it does the job. For the price, I payed $40, I love this thing. Not to recommend getting it wet, but it has been dowsed with the sprinklers, stayed all night several times and been dropped at least once and still works. Can't comment on battery life, mostly plug it in.

I've been looking for a boombox that I can use with my iPhone while I'm at the beach. I looked at the Bose, but couldn't justify spending $350 on something that can potential get ruined by sand and water.

This iLive has a great handle which makes it convenient for toting along with me, and I won't get upset if this things gets ruined after a couple visits to the beach.

It does NOT charge your iPhone while on battery power (C batteries), but it does charge while plugged into AC power. The sound on the speakers is all right, but good enough for lounging around outside, not the best for inside as your main speaker system.
