Then they broke after another 3 months of use.
I highly recommend these to anyone looking for an affordable high quality set of earbuds.
They are also very comfortable, and isolate sound fairly well.

These just rock. They are comfortable, cool-looking, great-sounding, inexpensive, accessory-packed. Plus they have some features you wont find in many places such as a cloth cord and a excellent clip. The earpieces are unique and work well. The only downfall is i would like them better if the rubber was solid black instead of a transparent black. Their customer service is excellent as well. Sent me a new pair when the stress reducing part started to rotate where it met the aluminum part, let me keep all the accessories and everything for that set as well. I am just supremely satisfied with this set of earphones. I intend on using these until i am ready to throw down about $150 on a set if not more.. I would like to add in that the durability seems good even though i got one that was defective i am sure that it would have lasted 2 years. The microphonic noise is pretty bad if you don't use a clip or wear them behind your ears. I personally cannot wear them behind my ears but the clip does a good enough job. If you cannot stand noise from movement stay away but that is honestly the only thing i can pick on and most iems do make this noise.. The only reason why it stands out in this set is because they do a superb job at sealing earpiece in your ear and it has a cloth cable.

P.S. Please ignore the votes of 1 and 2 stars. these are people that are taking off all points because they can't figure out how to put them in their ears or use the clip or wear them behind the ears to reduce the microphonic noise.

Update: months later, still loving the product. I have noticed that the cloth cable keeps em from getting tangled badly even if i shove em in my pocket. it is subject to kinking though so avoid bending it sharply. not that a kink would hurt anything whatsoever, just stuff like that annoys me.

EDIT: mine died after 18 months. It wasn't wiring - one of the speaker drivers fried. I used them with care, only when sitting not exercising and didn't play them loud. Because of this I lowered my rating from 4 to 3. But I liked them enough I will buy another pair hoping they usually last longer.
I loved my Etymotic ER-6. They had amazingly flat frequency response, low distortion, reasonable efficiency to be driven by any iPod or portable, and were perfect for the acoustic and classical music that makes up 95% of my listening. But after about 5 years of frequent use, the delicate wires finally detached from the speaker, too tiny to fix with my soldering iron, so I had to get new earbuds.

I wanted something that could compete with the Sennheiser HD-600 and dedicated headphone amp I use at home, and with the Magneplanar 3.6/R speakers I listen to in my tuned/prepared dedicated audio room, but that was efficient enough to be driven by an iPod, and not too expensive. Essentially, another Etymotic ER-6, but Etymotic no longer made the ER-6.

The Maximo iM-590 is the perfect replacement for the ER-6. The overall sound quality is just as good. Not quite as neutral, as they have a slight lift in the bass compared to the ER-6, but it is subtle enough that it doesn't detract from the music, and it more closely matches the response of the HD-600s, which are not neutral but sound very good anyway. The clarity is excellent and they are still quite neutral despite their bass lift. They resolve fine detail without being harsh or analytical. It is truly amazing sound quality for the low cost. There is nothing that compares for several times the price.

The only negative is comfort.

I first had a chance to listen to these at a meet of [...] enthusiasts with Andrew from Maximo Products. We had time to compare them to several other more pricey IEM's and they were quite excellent. Matching or beating IEM's several times thier price. The build quality is solid and comes in an Iphone mic. version as well. I've had many IEM's including triple driver customs and for the price, these beat out everthing below $150.00. All the bass of Sennheisers and and Denons, and the mids and high clarity of Ultimate Ears SF5Pro's. Take the Plunge !!!

I use these headphones to listen to music while sitting at my desk in a cubicle setting. Previous to using these headphones, I've always used over the ear, closed headphones. After about an hour, ear bud headphones almost always cause discomfort for me. The Maximo iM-590 has a nice soft silicon bud that fit nicely into the ear, which practically eliminates the discomfort I would normally have from this type of headphone.

The iM-590 comes with four different size ear eartips. Once you find the right size for your ear, you will find that sound quality is crisp and clean, with decent bass response (it is vital that you find the right size bud for your ear to receive the best bass and audio quality). Visually the size difference in the eartips is pretty minor. It would have been a nice feature for Maximo to colorize the silicone eartips to distinguish the various sizes. Once fitment is snug, any noises outside of the iM-590 speakers fade away.

The iM-590 comes with a small sleek case that can hold most of the headphone accessories. I found that the case was a bit too small, and could be slightly larger to accommodate all of the accessories that these headphones ship with.

In my dark office setting, it is extremely difficult to determine which speaker are the Left and Right. It would have been nice if they had added more obvious distinction for sidedness.

It is worth mentioning how high quality a product the Maximo iM-590 is. Everything from the knit cabling, the machined audio jacks, the metal casing and speakers, the silicone eartips, all adds up to excellent fit and finish. Certainly for the money you can't go wrong.

*Excellent audio quality
*High build quality
*Comes with a small portable case
*Great value
*could use a bit more bass
*Left and Right sidedness distinction
*Case is a bit too small
