JUNK ! The first one arrived and was completely dead. Amazon was great on the return. I figured just bad luck and ordered a replacement. The second one arrived and would work for about 1 minute, then cut out for anywhere from 5 minutes to 2 hours and then magically start working for 1 minute again. Once again, Amazon was great about a refund.

Constructed of the most delicate of plastic. I have had drink straws that were strong plastic. Even the screws are plastic so you can't tighten anything on it without fear of snapping of a part so it wont hold position. light did not come on at first. I found if I pushed up on the end of the gray armature it would flicker on. I could temporarily get it to stay on by tightening the screws on the end of the armature, but again the screws are plastic and will not get tight enough to stay in place. Also battery in remote was DOA, makes high pitch sound, and rotation is jittery.

I try to save 1 stars for the worse, but this was really chintzy. If this was $20 I would give it 3 or 4 stars as there is more of an assumption you get what you paid for. Definitely should not be $70.

i sure was excited about buying the iOptron Live star mini plantearium....and when the order was delivered to me i was the happiest person....it works wonderfully well and sure is a knowledgable thing but the only trouble is that the names of various galaxies in it are not clear.for a novice, one has to go through a lot of material on the internet to know about them.it would have been better if the company could have provided a CD-Rom for the same along with the mini plantearium!

This product came to me in almost good working condition... the plastic piece that holds the rotating piece and the IR receiver together needs much more rigidity... the lights and rotation shut off very easily. I've had to prop it up against an object to give it enough pressure to provide electrical connection. I fully dismantled the small circular unit area (consequently most of the device) and attempted fixing by bending the contact prongs inside to give more pressure.... unfortunately that did not solve the problem, my next step is to take scrap plastic, melt, bend and shape to re-inforce the unit so that it holds pressure against the contacts... I'm also probably going to sand the contacts and hope they get better conductivity with what little pressure they have going for them...

It's really frustrating because my kids LOVE learning about the stars and it's potentially a GREAT tool for their bedtime and education, but it just falls short... given the price and the other competing products i'm severely disappointed in this, and the overall availability of quality planetariums....

If you decide to get this just know you will most likely have to do modifications and anyone without any electrical experience or confidence in fabricating plastic pieces will be very disappointed... :(

It worked great for the first couple of times. Now there is a short in the mechanism and the bulb flickers. It no longer is bright enough to project light farther than a couple of inches. I shuttered my windows and turned on the classroom lights, got my students anticipated a great time...alas, such was not to be. It projects light from only 3 or 4 inches away. Pretty pathetic.

The first one of these I ordered arrived damaged, clearly used and not working. I exchanged for a new one as it was a gift and it worked for one day, then stopped working. I cannot return it now since the time period for return has elapsed. Very disappointed daughter and I am very very upset. This is utter rubbish.

I bought this for my 2 year old to use as a night light while he goes to sleep. It serves it's purpose well and presents a nice display in an 8x8 room. My son enjoys it and makes bed time a breeze. The ability to adjust it to your own longitude is a nice feature. My only criticism is the light bulb flickers from time to time requiring you to turn it off and on again, but for the fifteen to twenty minutes it is used it's not that big of a deal.

I read the reviews for this before I decided to buy this and decided to take a gamble. It couldn't be THAT bad, right? Wrong...

I turned it on and first thing I hear is a high pitched sound that came from it. I used the rotate function and the higher pitched sound became even louder. Not only that, the light bulb decided to flicker and die on me. The bulb didn't actually go out but if I tried to use the rotating setting, it would go out in 1 minute. I only just opened it and I've already decided to return it. Don't buy.
