The author seems unable to write a sentence without diverging on a tangent or trying to reference something that is outside the scope of this book. I found it frustrating to read and wished the author would just get to the point...

i can appreciate the fact that you need to understand the groundwork before getting into the project, but i think this book goes a little overboard with the preamble and the metaphors and the clever phrases. i'm a patient person who likes to consider theory and design but i found myself wanting to just get on with the fun stuff, after all, the book is supposed to be for dummies.

It is a good book for those just wanting the basics of Windows8. It is more compact than the regular version. We have found it to be a good reference to get started in Windows8.
