Although the iPad is not especially heavy, it does get uncomfortable to hold for extended periods of time. This is especially true when trying to read in bed. I started looking for an iPad stand after seeing one on the iPad Today podcast. I was amazed at the number of choices available. After spending many hours researching the various models, I settled on the SwingHolder. This really is a premium iPad stand. The build quality is great - leaving no doubt that it will last. The base is weighted, so I never fear bumping it and having it tip over and damaging my iPad. The charging cable is wonderful because it allows me to leave my iPad in the stand and charge overnight. Most stands do not include this, so you'd either need remove from the stand to charge, or have a cable dangling from the iPad which would increase the risk of it being snagged on something and tipped over.

I would highly recommend this product for anyone who uses the iPad for extended period or would just like to have the iPad available next to their work area without taking up desktop space for a traditional stand.

I have had this product for a couple of months and the following problems have occurred, the grey locking latch fell off and I can not put it back on also the counter weight falls off all the time due to the poor design of the nipple and hole on the shaft. For the money this product should have better quality. Be careful that when the counter weight falls (and it will) that you get you feet out of the way.

Since the last review, I have been contacted by the company that makes this product (without me calling) and they have sent me the replacement parts for the stand. They have corrected the problems and the stand works great. I have never had such great customer service and follow-up. Again a great product.

I knew, even before assembling the SwingHolder, that it promised to be the Rolls-Royce of iPad holders -- and I was right. Beautifully smooth in action (swivel and tilt), solid construction, made with attention to detail and a practical understanding of the purpose for which it was made.

The previous two iPad holders that I purchased from other manufacturers; the first which attached to the headboard was flimsy and impractical, and the second, freestanding floor model with an adjustable, swan-neck holder was unsteady, kept toppling over, and its swivel mechanism was clunky and virtually unusable. Both a waste of money!

I am disabled, and have to lay flat on my bed with only one pillow to elevate my head, so the holder had to be flexible enough to hold my iPad in awkward positions. It had to be practical and, most importantly, reliable. The SwingHolder fits those requirements perfectly. But 'quality' comes at a price -- you get what you pay for, and your iPad deserves the best.

I must also mention the excellent StandForStuff customer service -- it's exemplary! I live in the UK and they went out of their way to help with my inquiries and to ship the stand to me.

I bought this stand so my sister who has to lay in bed on her back for hours can watch videos or baseball games on her iPad. I first bought a high end wall mount version but every time you moved it, the joints would loosen up and the iPad would sag out of position. This stand has a counter weight that balances the weight of the iPad and is perfectly stable at every position. The stand is top quality and the internal USB cord and wire holders are first class.

There are many stands for the iPad. This is by far the very best. It is a work of art and durable. Cannot imagine getting though the day without this stand. If you know anyone with disabilities, please keep them in mind. Excellent product. I cannot say enough good things about it.

My son has cerebral palsy and he has been restricted to a wheelchair his whole life with very limited gross motor skills and needs assistance in all aspects of his day-to-day activities. He is now 19 year old and has developed a lot of personal interest, mostly around reading and studying languages. The SwingHolder has given him a degree of independence he never had before; he can now use his iPad for longer periods of time since he doesn't have to hold it all the time.

In addition after he is put to bed by his aids, he has the freedom to watch movies, read books, or play games. And when he is done, he just swings the stand out of the way without asking for any further assistance.

We have just started to explore all the possible uses and additional freedoms that this gives us. This device has been a godsend for my son.

Pros:
Ipad has never fallen out
easy to assemble
swings very fluidly
cord connection through the stand for easy charging (wire wrap to hold excess wire length)
sturdy/heavy base

Cons:
Doesn't work well if you're under the pole height (weird angles)
Pole does not adjust height
if someone (or a pet) walks behind it and catches the counterweight... your ipad spins away from you or into your face

Like everyone else, I automatically tried to find alterative products due to the hefty price tag but I kept coming back to this one especially after finding the same product in other independent review websites, such as the top 5 ipad stands of 2013. I decided to go for it as I needed something ideal to hold the ipad for me in an awkward position while laying flat on my back on the floor using a special neck support that kind of makes my head hang upside-down for up to 20 minutes daily. My only disappointment is that the ipad couldn't be held at a 90 degree angle straight down towards the floor HOWEVER I still managed to lock the screen rotation on the ipad and turn it upside-down at the maxed out 45 degree angle from the opposite direction of my line of sight and I was able to watch streaming netflix in that position with no issues whatsover :) I also figured why they don't make it swing downward at a full 90 degree, it would had made the whole stand a lot weaker if they did and 99% of people don't even need it at that odd angle to begin with.

I found myself using the ipad Ten-Fold since I got the stand a week ago! so much that I leave it in the stand 99% of the time now, it practically just tripled the value/function of the ipad.
