Product Description

(Note: this book was updated 5/22/2010 to include dozens of more tips and tricks!), as well as an added appendix full of dozens of apps to check out and a new chapter all about iPad Pages, Numbers, and Keynote.

History will decide if the iPad is as revolutionary as some people think. What’s important is you have yours, and now it’s time to tweak it with Apps galore!

The point of this book is to show you how to get the most out of your new investment, and not just to repeat everything in the user manual supplied by Apple online.

Sure, the iPad is pretty, but did you know you can also run Windows 7 off it remotely? There may not be a Microsoft Word App, but that doesn’t mean you can’t remotely run Word from the computer in your home office? The Apple manual won’t show you that. It also won’t show where to get free books. And speaking of free, did you know you don’t have to have your music collection on your iPad? This book will show you how to stream the collection of CDs you own on other device.

Did you pick up an iPad without 3G? Did you know that you can use the 3G on your smart phone to run the Internet on your new tablet? What about printing? Did you know there’s a way to print right from your iPad?

How about hearing a book read aloud? Did you know you can actually hear your books read to you? It’s easy!

If you want to read the official iPad documentation, this book will also show you how to get that.

There is not yet an official user manual for iPad Pages, Numbers, or Keynote, so a very basic one is also included here.

There are all kinds of tricks to getting the most from your iPad, so sit back and enjoy the ride!

This is essentially a bunch of tips that is not particularly well organized. It's good to find out a bunch of features that exist on an iPad but are not clearly documented. I got this because though I am a sophisticated user, there are some things about the iPad that bug me and I wonder if I am missing some things that would improve it.

The writing is exceptionally poor, and there are misspellings and gross grammatical errors on every page. He even refers to a product called the 'iPoad' - I want one of those! Please get to know your spell check. A book is not Twitter, and you are charging money for it.

Still at $2.99 it's worth it for the information.

If it's not covered, please add the following which caused me no end of frustration until an Apple Genius helped me out. I didn't see these things in the docs, and it's not obvious. There is no undo button, but you can undo your last text entries by shaking the device. If you want to add a photo to a current email: go into Photos to your image, tap and hold select the Copy button that appears, then go back to your email and tap and hold and select Paste.

Bought this for tips to help me as a new iPad user. A number were good and worth the price, like how you can do a "Print Screen" which copies the screen to Photos from which you can email to your laptop and print it if you wish. (The iPad has no native print capability at this time. Probably will when they do the first major operating system upgrade this fall.) But in the chapter on Free Books it suggests going to [...] and downloading the ePub format. When I tried that my iPad said it couldn't download that format. It did download text. Maybe you are supposed to download first to your desktop or laptop and then somehow transfer to the iPad. If so, that was not explained. It includes a number of App recommendations which were excellent. I'm looking forward to his next edition.

I read this on my iPad and I had high hopes of learning something new, buy no luck. In addition, it was just a bunch of few sentwnce paragraphs with brief tips that were not of much use. I'm glad I only paid $2.99, but it might be worth a buck. Download the official iPad manual from Apple and you will learn a lot more for free.

I must applaud the author for truing to get some information published quickly. I guess the tradeoff is quality vs timely publishing. I would wait for a more complete manual.
