5.0 out of 5 stars Great Reference and User Guide for your iPad 2 May 5, 2011
Format:Paperback
It has been said many times already, but it's worth repeating: iPad is one of the most revolutionary devices that have come around in years. On the surface it seem like a cross between a tablet PC, a net book and an iPod, but comparing it to any one of these other devices doesn't do the full justice. iPad is truly revolutionizing how we approach the use of computers, and it is bound to have an impact on all of the other computing devices. iPad is an always-on, easily accessible and intuitive computing platform. Even though the ease of use is one of its hallmarks, if you have never used an iPod or an iPhone you may have some initial difficulties with using it.

iPad 2 has been a major improvement on the original iPad concept. This device is thinner, lighter, faster, and it's equipped with two cameras, one on each face of the device. It is even more fun to use, and you almost start to feel that you could almost entirely ditch your computer.

"My iPad 2" aims to take away the mystery behind iPad 2 and help you make the most of it. The book is written in an extremely accessible and to-the-point style, and from the very outset it takes you straight to the actual demonstrations of how to achieve certain actions on your iPad 2. It helps you navigate the plethora of settings and adjustment options, and tries to make sense of them. This is in fact one of the book's greatest strengths - it is not just a bag of tricks, but also a clear and lucid explanation of the rationale behind every design option on your iPad 2 (both hardware and software). The book also covers some of the most important and useful general iPad apps (both paid and free), such as maps, Keynote, Numbers and Pages, as well some apps that take the full advantage of iPad 2's new capabilities, like Keynote and iMovie.

5.0 out of 5 stars This is a must have !!! May 23, 2011
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
I'm not much for superlatives. O.K. I'm a nit-picking, fault-finder so even I'm amazed that I like this book so much. It's fantastic right from the "contents at a glance" page. Just pick a subject and flip through the book to find the corresponding color-coded page. I know it's a small thing but it's just an example of the thought and care that went into the book. The graphics are great with many sidebars and helpful, number coded notes so you don't have to wade through paragraphs to find what you're looking for. You even get an online copy of the book for 45 days when you buy the book. The Amazon ad for the book has a "look inside" feature so you can "scroll" through the book before you buy. Alright.... here is the nit-picky part: The only thing needed to make this book perfect is a spiral binding so you could lay it out flat while you're working with the ipad. Everything from getting started to connecting your guitar to the ipad. What more could you ask for?

3.0 out of 5 stars Good resource but Apple's may be better June 9, 2011
Format:Paperback|Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What's this?)
Recently bought the IPad 2 and compared Apple's book on the IPad (IPad User Guide) which can be downloaded for free into IBooks and this book. Both provide a lot of information and both have uses but the Apple book is better. There is more detail on specifications and simple highlights on applications that are available.

My IPad 2 goes into longer explanations on a number of applications available and is a good reference for that. Apple's book is more convenient on IBooks (I assume that My IPad2 could be purchased for the Kindle app or IBooks as well) and wastes less white space in highlighting information. For example, I compared the information on charging the battery between the two books since that is a basic task that someone new to the IPad may want to know. The Apple book provides more information and explanation on charging and battery life and refers the reader to a helpful webpage that goes into further detail. My IPad 2 essentially tells the reader to plug it in.

I found useful information in this book and some detail especially helpful on IWorks apps like Numbers and Pages. The illustrations are clear and helpful and the information direct.

The book itself is useful but is it worth it when Apple makes a comparable book that is convenient and free?

5.0 out of 5 stars Valuable resource for iPad 2 June 19, 2011
Format:Paperback
My iPad 2 is a must have for any owner of the iPad 2, whether novice or experienced user. It is well organized from the beginning chapter 1, Getting Started to the last chapter, iPad Accessories. It states its objectives for each chapter clearly on the first page of each chapter. It has an abundance of screen shots with numbered descriptions of each item marked on the image. There are step by step clear, concise instructions for every task you might want to do on the iPad 2. It explains how to use and setup the included apps on the iPad. In addition, a valuable feature of this book is the inclusion of 3rd Party solutions such as Printopia (page 356), to do things that the iPad should do, but doesn't or could do better. I teach ipad classes in libraries and use this book as my reference guide and recommend it to people taking my classes. I highly recommend this book if you want to get the most out of your iPad 2.
