5.0 out of 5 stars This book should come with the iPhone
This is a great book for learning how to do something with your iPhone. Every page is a self-contained "how to" for a different subject - and no function of the iPhone goes undescribed, with screen shots and exact directions. Some pages also have extra tips or work-arounds for things, like making a slide show with music, that you'd think were already built-in functions...

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing...
Let me begin by saying that Scott Kelby is fantastic. His work with the National Association of Photoshop Professionals is great and I learned a lot from watching him at Photoshop World.

However, I learned nothing by reading through this book. It kind of reminds me of the Apple commericals: "This is how you turn it on...this is how you surf the web...this is...

5.0 out of 5 stars This book should come with the iPhone, September 8, 2007
This review is from: The iPhone Book: How to Do the Things You Want to Do with Your iPhone (Paperback)
This is a great book for learning how to do something with your iPhone. Every page is a self-contained "how to" for a different subject - and no function of the iPhone goes undescribed, with screen shots and exact directions. Some pages also have extra tips or work-arounds for things, like making a slide show with music, that you'd think were already built-in functions. Where there are difference when interacting with a Mac or a PC, these are pointed out too.

The book is divided into chapters for each of the different major functions of the iPhone - web surfing, photos, iPod features, etc. - and oh yeah, I think you can make and receive phone calls on it, too. The organization and complete Table of Contents make it very easy to find exactly the help you're looking for.

The writing is in a very light and conversational style - each chapter begins with a humorous intro, and then dives right into the how tos. You can either read through this cover to cover or use it as a reference manual.

I personally find the iPhone to be the easiest cell phone I have ever used. But even so, I picked up several good tips and tricks from this book, and recommend it to all iPhone owners who want to get the most out of their new toy.

2.0 out of 5 stars Disappointing..., October 4, 2007

Let me begin by saying that Scott Kelby is fantastic. His work with the National Association of Photoshop Professionals is great and I learned a lot from watching him at Photoshop World.

However, I learned nothing by reading through this book. It kind of reminds me of the Apple commericals: "This is how you turn it on...this is how you surf the web...this is your music...and this is the phone." In otherwards, it teaches only the very basics, which most everyone can learn simply from playing around with their phone for a couple of hours. Apple made it simple for a reason, and you can learn most of the basic lessons from this book free on the Apple Website. It does have beautiful full-color photos and graphics, but the advanced content isn't really there, despite what the book title seems to suggest. If you just bought an iphone today, you might enjoy this book. But I'd recommend renting this book from the library or browsing through it at the bookstore. You'll absorb all the info within a couple hours or less, and you'll save $20.

An alternative to this book is "The Rough Guide to the iPhone". It goes into way more depth with advanced features and insider tricks, and is half the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely Outstanding and Very User-Friendly!, October 2, 2007
This review is from: The iPhone Book: How to Do the Things You Want to Do with Your iPhone (Paperback)
I was one of the first to purchase the Apple iPhone (8gig) and I really enjoy it. However, after purchasing "The iPhone Book" I enjoy it even better. The book is very informative, resourceful, engaging, simple, user-friendly and gave great tips. The design layout and graphics are great. More importantly, all of the topics are laid out in a very logical sequence and each topic is covered thoroughly. I am a great fan of Terry White and I have purchased many of his books and learning videos. Terry White is the best of the BEST! I am also a fan of Scott Kelby. If you are looking for an excellent reference tool for expanding your knowledge and taking full advantage of this great phone (Apple iPhone), you need to purchase this book. I am not a geek and I like it simple/stupid! This book is very user-friendly and to the point. Wow! Terry and Scott! You hit gold baby! Gregory Eason

5.0 out of 5 stars Easy to use, full of little gems, November 14, 2007
This review is from: The iPhone Book: How to Do the Things You Want to Do with Your iPhone (Paperback)
While the interface of the iPhone is so beautiful and well thought-out that using it is mostly intuitive, there were still a few things that stumped me. Thankfully, the iPhone Book set me straight in about 4 seconds. One of the reasons I like the book so much is that it's set up with one topic and one photo per page, although many pages have additional tips as well. All those screen shots of the interface make it really easy to follow the instructions. One thing I could NOT figure out was the auto-complete feature. That had me so entirely confused! But right there in the beginning of this book (page 13) it was all clearly explained. Made life so much easier. Highly recommended.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Combo! Great Book!, October 13, 2007
This review is from: The iPhone Book: How to Do the Things You Want to Do with Your iPhone (Paperback)
Big, clear pictures; Insightful coverage of the product and tools; Clean page design; Easy to follow layout; Thorough Table of Contents with an even better Index... this is exactly what I would expect from the #1 Technology Book Author of the last 3 consecutive years. And this time Scott is joined by longtime friend Terry White who penned one of the most read internet reviews of the iPhone on launch weekend. Great Combo! Great Book!

5.0 out of 5 stars How to do the things you want to do with your iPhone, September 16, 2007
This review is from: The iPhone Book: How to Do the Things You Want to Do with Your iPhone (Paperback)
This book does what it says it is going to do. It shows you how to do the things you want to do with your iPhone. The photos are plentiful and fabulous. It's clear from each page what concept is being put across.

The ten chapters are broken down into clear categories, and have very clever sub-titles. Skipping directly to the section where the reader wants to focus is quite easy. The index is very thorough, and quite extensive. With the index being so elaborate, picking up those tips and tricks along the way to becoming a power user shouldn't take too long.

This book would be an asset to any iPhone owner wanting to get the most out of their new phone.

Okay I knew I wanted an iPhone, but after reading this book with all of the great iTips and fabulous tricks, I knew I HAD to have one. Scott has such an awesome way of breaking down what people really need/want to know, as he does in ALL of his books. Hands down, this is the BEST iPhone book out there. No competition with this one Scott : )

5.0 out of 5 stars An Indispensable User-Friendly Resource, October 21, 2007
This review is from: The iPhone Book: How to Do the Things You Want to Do with Your iPhone (Paperback)
The iPhone Book: How to Do the Things You Want to Do with Your iPhone (One-Off)

This book is written in an extremely user-friendly manner and it has an excellent index which is greatly appreciated. Both authors, Scott Kelby and Terry White, are known world-wide as superb teachers and explainers, and their book reflects this. The physical attractiveness of the book results from a pleasing balance of images, text and white space. I would never consider going anywhere without my iPhone, and I feel the same way about this book too! Kudos to Scott and Terry!

5.0 out of 5 stars Very Helpful, October 14, 2007
This review is from: The iPhone Book: How to Do the Things You Want to Do with Your iPhone (Paperback)
I had a few questions about about the iphone so I picked up a copy of The iPhone Book by Scott Kelby and Terry White. It was so well organized that I found my answers right away. Not only did I find those answers, but I found a lot of other useful information as well.

The best part was when I discovered the iTips. These little tips and bits of information made the book completely worth it to me, before I knew it, I had read them all.

If you have an iPhone, you need this book.

4.0 out of 5 stars The iPhone Book, Kelby & White (Peachpit Press), December 31, 2009
This review is from: The iPhone Book: How to Do the Things You Want to Do with Your iPhone (Paperback)
It was announced that the iPhone has hit the one million sales mark in just 74 days. The timing then could not be better for Scott Kelby and Terry White's third party guide to making the most from this much ballyhooed device. Besides all the information included in the official Apple pdf manual for the device, the authors give a host of inside tips (called, cleverly enough, iTips) to go beyond the official manual into some of the more obscure workarounds that they quickly came up with. In offering more than the official 124 page version of the manual, Kelby and White, both longtime computer, software and gadget speakers and writers, have tried, successfully to come up with every imaginable angle on this very useful device. Whether you are interested in playing music, showing photos or movies, interfacing with the iTunes store, You Tube or Google maps, not to mention it's incredible seamless user interface with a broad array of specific Mac applications (Safari, Mac Mail, Address Book, etc.) or even making phone calls, `The iPhone Book' will go a long way to insuring you are getting the maximum value out of this year's must have device - no matter what price you paid for it. -
