No batteries are required to turn your iPod into a miniature portable boom box. Volume up / down buttons are disguised as "connectors" on the front. This is a great speaker for my kids. I like that the volume is not too loud and is much better for their ears than the standard ear buds. They are also lego lovers so it was a perfect gift!

My nephew is a Lego enthusiast, and we picked this up for him for a gift. He absolutely loves it! Plus, he said the sound wasn't that bad, esp for the size.

Highly recommended for the Maniac Builder in your life.
