It's kind of ironic that it takes an 800-page book to make the iPhone 4 simple! But this book is an excellent reference for most of the features of the iPhone 4. The iPhone 4 is my first smart phone, so I wasn't interested in books with legacy coverage; "iPhone 4 Made Simple" only covers iOS 4.0 and the iPhone 4. Unfortunately, the book was published just before the release of iOS 4.1, so there's no coverage of Game Center, HDR photography and other new features. But there are numerous online sources for information about 4.1, including the authors' own website. The book is broken down into easy-to-follow chapters and has an excellent table of contents and index for quickly finding detailed descriptions of the various functions. I went through the book page by page to familiarize myself with all the features of the iPhone, but it's just as easy to skip around the chapters to a specific feature or function of interest. The layout of the book is clean and uncluttered, with black & white illustrations and screen shots accompanying each description of a feature.

I love this book. I've been using my iPhone 3Gs for over a year now and just upgraded to version 4 of the operating system so I picked up this book.
iPhone 4 Made Simple helped me get so much more out of my iPhone 3Gs than I ever thought possible.

The extensive iTunes guide in the back of the book has shown me a bunch of cool new things - My wife and I both use iTunes so we can now share our music and save money with the iTunes Home Sharing feature. I created a few new Genius mixes - a whole new way to enjoy my music library. I also learned how to get PDF files into iTunes and onto my iPhone so I can read them anywhere. I'm in the advertising business and have lots of things to read that are in PDF format - so reading them on my iPhone in iBooks makes it so much more enjoyable.

Also, I loved the tip of how to download free e-books from the iBooks store by searching for `project Gutenberg.'

One thing that sets this book apart from any other tech book I've read are the abundance of large pictures and clear steps. This book was so easy to read. I was able to learn many of the tasks by just looking at the pictures.

I was amazed to learn that I could now schedule a meeting from underlined text in an email just by tapping it and scheduling a new event - that is really great.

I never knew about the free Evernote app described in the Notes chapter. This app allows me to store text notes, voice notes, and even picture notes. The app is amazing because I can snap a picture of a page of text and then actually search Evernote for the text within the image.

I signed up for the free email tips from the author's website which are great - I get bite-sized chunks of useful information every week or so.

For anyone with an iPhone running iOS version 4, I highly recommend this book. It will definitely help you get so much more out of your iPhone than you imagined possible.

Prior to getting my iPhone 4, I never had a smart phone with so many features. I knew I would need a reference to help me master all of them and iPhone 4 Made Simple has been great! Not only has this guide taught me how to perform all neccesary tasks but I've learned how to use some great unexpected fun features too. The book is well organized, concise and easy to read as well as being full of great illustrations. It allowed me to hit the ground running. Now I'm showing my friends what thier iPhone can do!

Wow, talk about simple!!! I definitely made the right choice purchasing this reference book. My iPhone is my first smart phone.....needless to say, I was a bit overwhelmed. So, I started in the beginning of the book with the Quick Start Guide. I was amazed at the endless possiblities of my new phone. Before I knew it, I was up and running. This book is AWESOME. The step by step instructions along with pictures are VERY EASY to understand. Chapter 3 was really helpful to me. In the past, I always had my husband download music onto my iPod because it was too confusing and I never could figure out how to do it. After reading this chapter I am able to do this and more, all by myself. I actually taught my husband a few things. Chapter 8 (Multitasking and Voice Control)was also extremely helpful. I had no idea that I could switch to another app without ending the first. AND...I love the voice control. When I first started using my phone, I thought I could only use the voice command for making phone calls, but that isn't the case as I found out. There are so many things I found out about my phone that I wouldn't have known about had I not read this book. Generally, when I purchase new products I don't make it past the first few pages of instructions because of the BORING and sometimes difficult to understand verbage, but I must admit that was not the case with this reference book. This is truly "learning made simple"!!

This is a great book...much better than the "iPhone for Dummies" book, IMHO. The main reason that I chose it over the "Dummies" book is that this book deals strictly with the iPHone 4, and not also it's predecessor.

This book is much more clearly written than my other 'Dummies" books that concentrate on other subjects. The book's format and clear, concise explanations in everyday language are 'superb'!
