5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect hat for our son
We just used this hat for a weekend at the beach with our 5 and a half month old son, and it was great. It completely shaded his face and shoulders from the sun. It occasionally blew back in the sea breeze (my hat was too), but the tie kept it on the whole time. At first he wasn't too thrilled with having it tied under his chin and kept tugging at the ties, but once I...

2.0 out of 5 stars Beware - color bleeds!, April 4, 2010

Buyer beware - this hat is not color fast! I'm not sure how this company can justify manufacturing a sun hat with non-colorfast dye that will be used by children around sweat and water. The very first time my daughter wore this hat it bled all over her shirt where the brim touched it. It took me a while to realize that it was the hat that had caused it. I couldn't really believe that it would have been made so poorly but rinsed it in the sink anyway just to see. The first time I rinsed it, red colored water just flowed from it. Ridiculous that something made for children wouldn't be made color fast, especially a sun hat!
Positives are that the chin tie allows it be fairly adjustable and that the brim is wide.
However, the negative of the fact that I can never trust that the color won't bleed all over my daughter's clothes makes it unlikely that I will ever actually use this hat.

1.0 out of 5 stars Doesn't breathe, June 24, 2010

I like that this hat blocks the sun. However, if you are using it for the purpose of blocking the sun, it is probably hot. My daughter screamed after wearing it for a few minutes. when I took the hat off- her whole head was sweaty. it doesn't allow air to breathe. I recommend not wasting your money and purchasing a cotton breathable hat instead.

3.0 out of 5 stars Floppy and unusable for a newborn, August 29, 2010
This review is from: iPlay Babywear Brim Hat (Apparel)
I like the idea of this hat but the execution isn't right for a newborn, so don't let the 0 - 6 months thing fool you.

It may work in a few months, but now it doesn't. It's way big for a younger baby - mine is 2 months and the hat is just oversized (and her head circumference is standard for her age). I like that it's adjustable, but the adjustable comes from a huge plastic toggle thing that sits right in the back of the head. When does a newborn ever have the back of her head NOT resting on something? Never. So it's virtually useless as a hat because I don't want her to rest her head back on that enormous plastic toggle.

Maybe I'll like it better when she's older and sitting up, where I want the back of her neck shaded and she's got head control so the toggle isn't an issue.

1.0 out of 5 stars Too big for a newborn, not really adjustable, January 20, 2011
This review is from: iPlay Babywear Brim Hat (Apparel)
I bought this in summer 2010 for my baby, born in August. I purchased the 0-6 month size but it was way too huge for her. Although the toggle in the headband makes it appear that it would be adjustable, in fact the headband is stitched in place where the toggle is attached, so it's impossible to adjust the size. Total waste of money.

5.0 out of 5 stars Perfect hat for our son, April 27, 2011

We just used this hat for a weekend at the beach with our 5 and a half month old son, and it was great. It completely shaded his face and shoulders from the sun. It occasionally blew back in the sea breeze (my hat was too), but the tie kept it on the whole time. At first he wasn't too thrilled with having it tied under his chin and kept tugging at the ties, but once I moved the bow to the side at his jaw/under ear, he left it alone completely. I'm thinking about adding some small sew-on snaps to the ties since getting my son to sit still to tie it on is a little bit of a challenge. I was unsure about the size to order, but took a chance on the 6 to 18 month size since my son's head is in the 75th percentile for his age. With the adjustable part drawn as small as it will go, the hat fits perfect. It's very soft and easy to stuff just about anywhere to take with you. As far as the complaints about the placement of the toggle adjustment right at the back of the head, if your infant will be laying back quite a lot, then this is probably a valid concern; however, our son always wants to be up and looking around, so the toggle placement is not a problem.

I LOVE this product. We live in sunny Texas, making a sunhat a necessity. My baby has been wearing the lavendar sunhat since she was 7 months old (she's 11 months now). We always keep it in her diaper bag, taking it with us wherever we go.

I noticed one of the reviewers commented it was too big...yes, it's a floppy hat but that's ultimately why it works so well to keep the sun out of my baby's eyes. Plus, it's fairly easy to flip the brim up if you want to get it out of your baby's face (although I haven't found it to be a real problem).

Take a look at the "customer images" under the product picture. I've uploaded some pictures so that you can see what it looks like on my baby. Hopefully that will help you decide.

4.0 out of 5 stars Nice Wide Hat, August 14, 2009

This hat is great for keeping the sun off my daughters head. It's also wide enough to offer some protection on her shoulders. I like that I can fold it up and keep it in the diaper bag without it getting ruined. Technically it is adjustable, but doesn't adjust by much. It also ties under her chin which is much nicer than Velcro and it stays on her head that way. It's more practical than stylish, but still pretty cute.

5.0 out of 5 stars Starting sun protection early, April 26, 2009

This review is from: iPlay Babywear Brim Hat (Apparel)
I bought this for my nine month old grandson this spring, when we started to spend time outside. It shades his face fully, which is good, since some pediatricians do not recommend using sun tan lotion this early. It is comfortable and he does not fuss at it. (He had a snow hat he hated, and we realized the inside was terribly scratchy.) It is a good size to grow into, and it should last two summers. It is great to have the easy to fasten under chin pieces, to protect both from wind and his sometimes wandering hands that love to pull at anything. He wore it today for a long hike to a waterfall, in a back pack. I highly recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent sun hat will grow with baby., October 27, 2011

This review is from: iPlay Babywear Brim Hat (Apparel)
This hat is much larger than I expected, but it has a great adjustable feature. There's a cute little star at the end of a cord that runs through the back half of the hat. When you pull it and adjust the tightening bead accordingly, the hat fabric pleats up in back until it's small enough to fit baby's head, the front of the hat stays smooth. My daughter is three months old and we were able to tighten the band enough to fit her little head. It ended up shading her like an umbrella, but it didn't fall in her eyes. This is a wonderful hat, well worth the price!

so i bought the biggest rimmed hat i could find thinking it would offer the best protection. well, unfortunately my child would not allow this to sit on his head for more than 2 seconds. the smaller rimmed hats, he could ignore. the hat is great otherwise, i just thought i would point this out to others because i had not thought of it before i bought this.
