I dropped my iPod which caused the headphone jack to intermittently work on only one side. I was resigned to pay whatever it would cost to fix at the Apple store, but I googled "replace headphone jack ipod' and found many videos that provide good instruction on how to do it yourself. I had never opened my iPod before.
This headphone jack arrived within 3 days. Great service.
The insides of the iPod are easy to figure out but all parts are tiny as expected. You must have a jewelers number '0" Phillips head screwdriver to do the work, but that's it for tools. The screws are difficult and took the most time, but the connections are simple and they are held down with tabs.
Maybe I was just excited to get the iPod working properly again, but I had the same experience that others here mentioned -- this headphone jack seems to sound better with smoother bass and better separation.
Highly recommended if you are at all handy!

I have had my ipod 5th gen for a while and after a year the sound only came out on one side so I kind gave up on it because i didnt want to send it and pay to get it fixed. Well when i found this and i decide to give it a shot. After installing it, my ipod sound worked perfect. I found the tutorial on youube on how to do it and in 20 minutes or so my ipod was fixed. Great Buy. You wont be disappointed

I don't know if this is like a placebo effect, but when I installed this baby I realized that it had better bass response than the original. Highly recommend if your stock headphone jack went south.

I did not recieve the audio jack for the Ipod video 5th gen. 30 gig. I got an audio jack that did not fit the contour of the case. I had to file down the audio jack I received in order to make it fit. Be careful.

the headphone jack did not fit the contour of my 5th gen ipod, and on top of that it did not work after filing to match the original one, returned this one and got one from somewhere else.

This thing went in without a hitch... I really appreciated that there was a tool shipped with the jack to assist in opening the ipod. Works perfect... I would buy from this seller again.

I purchased this item to replace my headphone jack (no audio in one channel) and it seemed like a very plausible deal--$7 for a cable ribbon with a switch and a stereo jack port only. Everything fit perfectly until I tried to seat the ribbon that runs from the audio jack to the processor.

The ribbon is too flimsy and won't sit like the OEM part and when I tried to playback, the audio shorted out and I would get blips of music. I took the part out and replaced it with my original jack and now I'm back to square one. I doubt it's human error because my original is working as it did before I took it apart.

2 stars because everything fit nicely except for that one little (but very important) connection.

Works great... not a totally simple swap, as you have to know what you are doing, but it works as advertised once it's installed.

I was excited to recieve my purchase however, I was dissapointed that after the assembly this product did not work. Very dissapointed.

Bought this in hopes of replacing my broken headphone jack for ipod 30gb. fits like a glove and works perfect! take your time when taking apart your ipod and handling the fragile wires. Customer service/shipping was really fast and helpful.
