Does not charge my 3g iphone. It will show up on the screen like its charging but it really isn't doing anything.

These sets are NOT compatible with 3G OR the other iphone my son has! (I think there are only two types so I wonder what phones these MAY work on???)

The car charger does not charge my iPhone 3G at all.
The wall charger connects to the phone like its charging, but it really doesnt do anything. I think it charged 10% overnight.

I bought one of these and was very disappointed when it did not work with my 3G Iphone. I swapped the usb cable that came with the Iphone and plugged it into the car charger as well as the wall charger. Both worked fine. Oddly enough the retractable cable works with the wall charger that came with the Iphone as well as my PC for both syncing and charging. So simply swap the cables and you are good to go.

From what I've experienced, the other reviewers are correct: this product is either not designed to charge an iPhone 3G from a wall outlet (the most likely case since the Firewire pinouts were removed for the 3G), or else has such quality control problems that only a minority of wall units sold (judging from the reviews) actually work. The presentation on my iPhone is that the status icon on the top of the iPhone switches to the charging icon, and the full screen image with the green battery bar graph appears. But the unit doesn't really charge. And when you try to "slide to unlock" when connected to the wall charger, the arrow button never slides, and you cannot get to the Home screen (or the Enter Passcode screen if you have a passcode).

There are several online reports to the effect that several generic third-party iPod/iPhone chargers no longer work with the iPhone 3G. That seems to be true here, despite the claims to 3G-compatibilty.

The USB cable should work fine, though you can purchase it very cheaply by itself. I've not tried the car charger, and honestly wasn't in a big hurry to do so since I've traditionally had bad experiences with such devices (although I must admit that today's rechargeable batteries are much more resilient than the NiCads and lead acid gel contraptions that us greybeards started out with in the 1980s).

So your experience may be better, and it's not a major purchase, but since it's claimed that this is iPhone 3G compatible, I'm giving it one star and suggesting you look elsewhere.

Charger did not work. Since this was such a small purchase it was not worth the time to get the seller to make it right.

I needed an iPod car charger when my previous one was stolen from my car by a neighborhood kid -- I know, sucky, but it was my fault because I left my car unlocked one night. Anyway, this one looked simple enough, right? So I ordered it, got it in right before a weekend trip out of town. As soon as we're on the road, I plug it in, hear a little click, and bam -- the cigarette charger in the car is out, the item blew a fuse (as checked by several other devices we knew worked). Upon arrival at our destination, my husband & a cousin managed to replace the fuse, but still not without a trip to an auto parts store. Time & money wasted.

I should have known at that point that the product was a piece of junk, but what did I do when I returned home? Plugged it into an outlet at our house. And guess what happened there? It burned out a wire, or something else so severe that an electrician took an hour & $200 to fix it. Seriously? I complained to the company, who immediately sent me a new one, but again... seriously? They expect me to have the confidence in the second that I blindly had in the first? Both are in a landfill somewhere (couldn't even justify recycling them because it might do the same to another) and I am out $220 and am extremely peeved about my time wasted.

Don't go for the cheap stuff. Buy a charger that's reliable -- few things can be substituted for something you actually need to be of a level of quality.

This verges on false advertising.

This car charger can barly help keep iphone from discharging when in use not realy a charger. Home charger didnt work at all. Zip cable doesnt even sync when i try to use it sync my iphone with my computer. Do not buy this product. Buying Cheap is not always cheaper. The iphone is power hungy and iv gone through at least four car chargers. The best charger by far has ben Belkin Dual USB Car Charger. Do your self a favor and buy it it will save you money in the long run by not having replace so many chargers so often.
