5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Mp3 Player
Earlyer I had a iPod Nano, it was good but it broke. So not a lot of mp3 players are better than iPod since everyone knows what those are and they have a good reputation. So I was looking for something cheap. I saw the iRiver T10 512MB mp3 player and I liked the way it looked. I have to say the picture makes the color look dark red but no its light red, not pink. 3.0 out of 5 stars Awful firmware upgrade.
I had lived in Korea for more than 5 years before I came to the states. I bought this because I had used more than 10 iRiver products with great satisfaction. All iRiver MP3 players that I had were easy to upgrade firmware/software. Of course, they had many other great features like FM and FM recording, Voice recording, Video, and Alarm.

But this T10 - I...

I Also read all of the customer reviews for this product and the 1 GB T10 as well. Nothing about this mp3 player is bad. People said it hard or confusing about using it or getting it set up on the computer, I sure dont think so and i'm only 14 years old so if I can set it up and use it easly then you can too.

Features: A-B repeat, Press the record button and you can save songs that you dont own from the radio thats in the mp3 player to the mp3 player or you can record your own voice when you speak into a microphone thats also built in, It tells time, Locks so it never turns on accidentily, and its got tons of things that you can make your mp3 player personalized the way you want it.

Pros: Good sound quality, Long battery life, Easy to use and set up if you have windows xp and windows media player 10 which I had when I first got this mp3 player so I had no troble, Cool background and color, and the thickness is a little bulky but I like it and I think the color and style is cool.

Cons: It has this cross fadeing thing that when you pause it and turn it on again it starts off quiet and then loud to the volume setting you have it at its a little annoying but I can live with it. and when the backlight turns off you cant see anything and I can Live with that, I guess you can set the backlight timer to always on. And those are only little problems so this mp3 player is all good.

Drop Test: Ive droped it (accidently) from about 3 feet at 2 different times and no scraches or problems.

So thats all, its a pretty good 512MB mp3 player.

5.0 out of 5 stars Awesome MP3 Player, September 29, 2005
This review is from: iRiver T10 512 MB MP3 Player with FM Tuner (Electronics)
I had never owned an MP3 player before the last 2 weeks. I got a couple giftcards though and decided that I needed another new toy to play with, so I looked at MP3 players. After briefly using an RCA Lyra, I took it back when I found out it didn't work with JANUS and it's FM tuner was weak at best.

Then I took a look at the iRivers on the suggestion of some various people and I have not been disappointed.

Pros : Excellent battery life (50 hours), FM tuner, great sound, easy to use controls, what I think is an attractive design, light but sturdy, compatible with subscription music, and a great color screen

Cons : A little expensive for the memory it has

As I don't have a lot of music, FM tuners and subscription music are the only way I would get any value out of an MP3 player and it's really great that I can have both of these features in a player that is a really high end device from a respected company. If it's in your budget, get the 1 GB model of the T10 but otherwise, this one won't disappoint you at all. (Well, unless you try and use the included ear buds. I didn't even try putting them in my ears.)

4.0 out of 5 stars Good overall. Difficulties upgrading firmware, August 16, 2006
By
This review is from: iRiver T10 512 MB MP3 Player with FM Tuner (Electronics)
Pros: Excellent sound quality. Color screen. Intuitive interface. Recording from radio. Built in microphone.
Cons: No armband included. With battery, actually feels a little heavy (but not too bad). FW was a pain in the butt to upgrade. Headphones have good sound, but are uncomfortable.

This player comes with firmware 1.04 out of the box. You can use the player in one of two modes: UMS or MTP. UMS stands for Universal Mass Storage; you can plug your player into the USB port of your computer and it shows up as a drive. Then you just drag and drop files into the player, and best of all, you can hook it up to any computer (but you can only upgrade firmware with Windows XP). MTP (I think stands for Media Transport Protocol) is the other mode, and via MTP you can have Windows Media Player manage your music collection and sync up with the player.

Personally, I like UMS. It's easy to just drag and drop.

So now, my gripe about the firmware update... When I get a new player, the first thing I do is go to the website and upgrade to latest firmware. I tried doing that, but the latest firmware (v1.70) does not upgrade directly from v1.04. After writing to tech support at iRiver, tier1 support sent me to the same upgrade link that I had already been to. This was aggravating. I responded letting them know that that didn't solve my problem. Then they sent me email with a support phone number. I called the number, (and here's the good part) the person on the other end of the line actually spoke English without an accent. She helped me step by step, very accurately with my problem. It turned out I had to upgrade to v1.54 before I could go to v1.70 (but this is not documented anywhere where the public could see it because it's a new problem).

I am now happy with this player. The sound quality is one notch above the iPod players (iRiver's sound quality has always impressed me). It used to be that their interface was clunky. Even though they have similar controls as the older players, they are a lot more intuitive.

I've been using this product for workouts at the gym for a few months. It seems to be much more rugged than most players I've seen. However, it is a bit bulky and the built-in clip is awkward to use. The packaging is good for wearing it on your arm or belt, but I just carry it in my pocket. If you plan to wear it around your neck, consider the weight - it is heavier than some other products. Overall, I am pleased with the ease of use and the sound quality. It does the job for me, and the color display looks really cool. I agree that the color of the product is different than what I expected, but I wouldn't call it pink.

5.0 out of 5 stars Oldie but goodie, June 7, 2006

This review is from: iRiver T10 512 MB MP3 Player with FM Tuner (Electronics)
Why would a person buy a bulky, low storage capacity product like this? In my case it fit my needs perfectly! As they said in ancient Rome "o tempora, o mores!" Not only must we have our portable media players, we must now have several to meet our moment-to-moment needs.

I needed a small, easily managed portable MP3 player for my daily workouts. I wanted disposable battery power, quick loads and unloads and total capacity was not an issue.

The iRiver T10 was a perfect fit. With it's big old AA battery power, I have an instantly powerable unit that runs for weeks on batteries I already keep around the house. That stingy 512 MB capacity is great for quick change outs of short playlists assembled especially to power me through the gym.

Hackers note - throw away the software, ignore the instructions, power up the unit and plug the USB cable into a PC running Windows XP - Suprise! It works just like a pen or flash drive and appears as removable storage device on your "My Computer" pane. No garbage "Libraries," "Synchronization," "Management" or the other nonsense that leaves you twiddling your thumbs while these ridiculous processes waste your time. Just drag and drop, and your locked and loaded.

The FM antenna is in the earbud cable, and iRiver actually made the cable long enough to be effective. Here in the city I can tune in across the dial - your mileage might vary in outlying areas.

The iRiver T10 was just the ticket for my workout dilemma, and at this reasonable Amazon price with free shipping, it's not the end of the world if I accidentally leave it in the locker room!

4.0 out of 5 stars Great MP3 Player, Everything I wanted, May 20, 2006
A Kid's Review
This review is from: iRiver T10 512 MB MP3 Player with FM Tuner (Electronics)
Well, I was looking around amazon and found this MP3 player. It was marked 50% off so I asked my dad if I could get it. When it finally came, it was excellent. I thought it might not be able to hold what I wanted, but currently I have 90 songs in it with room to spare. The voice recording and FM tuner/recorder are useful. Some people claimed that it was hard to transfer songs and audio files, but I found it to be a cinch. My only complaint was that the buttons are a little bit awkward. But, other than that this is a great MP3 player.

iRiver provides great value for the money on its T10 512 MB MP3 Player. Having said that, I highly recommend shopping around, as I have seen high variation on the price for this device. As of late May 2006, Tiger Direct's $69.99 price offered through amazon.com is definitely a good deal. This MP3 player is easy to use, has a nice color LCD screen and most importantly has exceptional sound quality. It is pretty straightforward to set it up on your PC with Windows Media Player and manage the loaded music on it. I highly recommend it!

I also have the older design T30 MP3 player from iRiver. While I could not find any differentiation in the sound quality, the T10 is a better device in terms of user interface and overall design. I think they are both fine choices depending on the premium you are willing to pay for color LCD interface, ease of use and stylish looks for the more expensive T10 model.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great MP3 Player, December 26, 2005
This review is from: iRiver T10 512 MB MP3 Player with FM Tuner (Electronics)
I had a Samsung and took it back today b/c the battery was internal and not removable, b/c I am going to be w/o a computer for several weeks, I needed one that I could re-charge w/o the computer so I picked up the iriver T10. It was so easy to download the songs b/c it comes w/ Windows Media Player software, unlike my previous Samsung MP3. So, my play lists were already there for when I needed to sync it w/ the MP3. Love the long batterly life of 47 hours! Love the color display and love the FM Radio, the sound is great. Easy navigation as well. Great price compared to the Samsung I had- w/ many more features!

It comes w/ bonus case as well!

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT PLAYER FOR OTR AND AUDIO BOOKS, March 24, 2007
This review is from: iRiver T10 512 MB MP3 Player with FM Tuner (Electronics)
I have searched far and wide for MP3 players which feature the "Resume" feature, sometimes referred to as "Bookmark." For those who are unfamiliar with the term, assume you are listening to an audio book or an old time 1 hour radio program. At any given point in listening to the program, you might decide to stop listening and turn the unit off. HERE'S WHERE THE I-RIVER SHINES. After the unit is turned off, most players revert back to the BEGINNING of the program. The I-River(And the Creative Zen Muvo units) pick up at the very word you heard when you shut the unit off! This is a very necessary feature for those of us who listen to old time radio (OTR) or those who are up to page 211 in a 300 page book!

5.0 out of 5 stars Truely portable, built like a rock, January 26, 2007
A Kid's Review
This review is from: iRiver T10 512 MB MP3 Player with FM Tuner (Electronics)
First of all, I'm not really a kid, I'm just lazy and didn't want to register. Anyhow, this is about the T10 not me.

When I got the T10 on Christmas a year ago I was a little disappointed, it only had 512mb of storage on it and I was pretty sure that wouldn't hold all my music. Well, it doesn't, but after more than a year of using and abusing this player I respect it.

First off, this thing is rock solid. I fell on it heavily while skating and was suprised when it wasn't broken. Friends of mine have iPods and are always extoling their virtues but when we go skiing no one brings their iPod for fear it will break. I have no fears, except that I'll get a T10 sized bruise if I fall on it.

The interface is also amazing. I can keep it in my pocket and easily skip tracks and turn up the volume with out looking at it. Some times I press the wrong buttons but my fingers are fat. The sound quaility, even with the head phones the T10 comes with, is amazing.

All in all, the only thing I don't like is the lack of storage space, but now that there is a 2gig T10, I'm going to get one asap. Forget the iPod, get one of these.
