iRobot Roomba APS 4905 Battery

Your Roomba may be experiencing an issue where the battery is deeply discharged and may need to charge longer than the standard 2.5 hours. (or 6 hours if you have a standard charger)

If you have fully charged your Battery (the Roomba Power light is solid green) and it charging time was short (less than 20 minutes) and its run time was short (less than 20 minutes) you will need to do the following.

Reset the Roomba charging system. Do this by removing the Battery and holding down the "power" button for at least 5 seconds. Then reinstall the Battery.

Plug the Charger into Roomba (avoid using the Home Base if you have one so as to ensure the Roomba's charging cycle is not interrupted.)

Charge the Battery until the Roomba Power light is solid green and keep the Roomba on the Charger for an additional 72 hours (3 days). Note: Do not interrupt this charging cycle.

In Max mode, run the Roomba for one complete cycle without a Home Base present, to deplete the battery. Keep track of the runtime and if it has improved, repeat steps 3 and 4 a few times. If your Roomba does not have Max mode, run several Clean cycles until Roomba stops and plays the "dead battery" song.

I just received this order and discovered that, despite the deceptive photo for the product description, this is a generic replacement and not an authentic iRobot brand battery. I have not yet tested it to see how well it performs; but I am quite upset with the deceptive product description. Now that I read the reviews others have written, I find several reviews that point out that this is a generic brand battery-- I wish I had read those more carefully before buying this battery.

There are several other companies selling aftermarket batteries for the Roomba on Amazon. I have no idea if they are better or worse than this one-- but several are cheaper and clearly identify themselves as aftermarket, 3rd party batteries. I decided to pay a little bit more for this battery because I thought I was getting an iRobot brand battery.

So, if you are considering buying this battery hopefully you read these reviews more carefully than I did and know ahead of time what you are getting for your money.

The original was fine, but unimpressive, generally. My initial battery died pretty quickly, going from over an hour, to around 15 minutes, to under... anyway, after a few charges and discharges, this lasts considerably longer than the original.

It does what it's sold to do. Half the reviewers are rating Amazon's ability to ship the battery on time, somehow... mine arrived in 2 days (prime).

Good price, good product.

I wasn't quite sure why my generation 2(?) Roomba would just shut down right after starting, but I suspected the rechargable battery. This battery works almost twice as good as the original one. 49.99< 279.99.... You know a brand new Roomba!

Though a different color, this is indeed the proper replacement battery for original Roombas. If you are lucky enough to have one of these classic machines around in good mechanical condition, do not fret and buy this battery now. You will be amazed and how your little guy springs back to life. Though a bit pricey, this is far less than you'd spend on a new machine. Unless you really need the features introduced on the new units, buy this intead.

My unit went from barely being able to complete one room - and slowly, at that - to doing at least five rooms, each at top speed.

Our battle against dirt and dust had come to an end. My Roomba warrior no longer had the energy to wander further than a few inches from home. Through the oracles I learned that a new iRobot Roomba APS 4905 Battery could potentially return the warrior to the battlefields. I consulted with the mighty Amazons, and made my request. Days passed, until finally, a mysterious box adorned my doorstep.

A finger slipped between the flaps of the cardboard box made quick work of the plastic packing tape. With eager anticipation, I opened the box. Inside, bubbles of air obscured my view, but a flash of bright yellow assured me that what lie in wait was what I had hoped for. The mighty Amazons had heard my plea, and taken pity on me! I tossed the packing plastic aside for the cat to wrestle with, and hoisted the iRobot Roomba APS 4905 Battery in the air. It's weight was hearty, with a promise of reliable electric discharge on the future horizon. I set to work attempting to break the seal on the retail packaging. A packing knife was necessary to score the plastic shield, and with a constant fear of severing a digit, I pried the casket open. At last! My iRobot Roomba APS 4905 Battery was free!

Unceremoniously, I flipped the Roomba over on its back like a helpless turtle. Removing the exhausted iRobot Roomba APS 4905 Battery like the still-beating heart of the human sacrifice offered to the Amazons, I chanted a prayer that the fallen warrior would recover. I tossed aside the exhausted iRobot Roomba APS 4905 Battery, surprising the cat playing in the packaging materials, and slid the new iRobot Roomba APS 4905 Battery into place with a satisfying "click." The Roomba made no effort to flip itself over onto its wheels, but I could sense its anticipation of a cleaning spree. Placing my cleaning partner onto the floor I pressed the power button, and it sprung to life. I instructed the Roomba to find the docking station and sleep, for there was much cleaning to be done, but a young warrior must be well rested and fully energized before heading into battle. Successfully finding the home port, I reiterated our schedule back to the warrior as sleep approached, and electric sheep filled our dreams.

Refreshed and revitalized! The warrior stands victorious after the daily battle! The iRobot Roomba APS 4905 Battery fulfilled its role in the war, and we live to fight another day!

It takes long time to charge and it only can use for about 30 mins. and the lifetime of the battery are short --less than a year.

I bought this to replace an original dead batter for the Roomba. I followed the charging procedures and then let it do it's thing. The battery lasted for about two months. After that, the roomba would dock and charge full, then when I told it to clean, it'd start cleaning for 15 secs, then it'd start beeping and die. Now my Roomba just sits on the ground collecting dust.

This battery pops right in to the Roomba--no tools or disassembly required to install it. The improvement in charge life is noteworthy over the battery that came with the Roomba at the time of purchase. I can now use the Roomba to clean 3 rooms on a charge instead of one. Totally pleased with my purchase!

There is a major bug in the IRobot software for versions prior to 2005 I believe (maybe 2004) which causes the robot to stop working and for batteries to charge improperly. They have a fix - send it to you free - and you ship it back (its a usb plug in device) free because they provide the envelope - Try the software fix before the battery.
