How well and cleanly does the eraser do the job?

I purchased these for my classroom because of the price. They do not sharpen evenly, and the leads break constantly. The few dollars I saved over the higher priced brand were not worth it, because the pencils are almost completely useless. They create more frustration in the classroom for the child and the teacher than is necessary!

I bought these pencils because the company I usually order misprints from no longer allows bulk orders. I am a teacher and my students go through dozens of pencils a day. These pencils are the worst. The lead breaks; you sharpen it; and it breaks while you're trying to sharpen it. You can actually hear the lead snapping while the pencil is in the sharpener. I've tried the electric pencil sharpener and hand-held sharpeners and get the same result. Out of a pack of 12, I end up throwing out 5 or 6. What a waste! I will buy the Ticonderoga brand from now on.

WARNING; The lead in the pencils is broken!!! You can't sharpen them, the lead falls out. I tried 36 pencils just in case it was a bad package, but all 36 were the same BROKEN LEAD.
The lead is from China so you can't even use them the stir your coffee. JUNK CHINA JUNK.
NO STARS.

I haven't written a review on Amazon in a while, but decided to do so given my experience with the iScholar #2 Hexagonal Yellow Pencils (144 count). As a parent who dreads homework as much as my kids do, I like to make the after-school experience as painless as possible. One small way to accomplish this is to have a few reliable, sharpened pencils on hand and ready to go after a long school day. For the multitasking Mom (like me) who cooks dinner and manages homework for four kids simultaneously, pencils are at the bottom of my list of concerns...or at least they should be. Based upon all the positive reviews, I decided to order the large pack of iScholar pencils. They were reasonably priced given the sheer quantity in each box, but upon sharpening them, we soon discovered WHY they were so inexpensive. The quality of these pencils is mediocre at best. Many of the pencils would only partially-sharpen in our electric pencil sharpener. i.e.: Roughly 4 per every 12 pencils we tried to sharpen wouldn't sharpen to a graphite tip. Instead of sharpening to an actual writing instrument, a sliver of wood would remain on the tip of the pencil, rendering the pencil completely useless. Upon closer inspection, we noticed that the wood encasing the graphite core was actually warped in some areas on multiple pencils, making it impossible to sharpen the pencils to a graphite point. We also tried a hand-held pencil sharpener as well as an electric one, both to no avail. Instead of a typical pencil with wood casing surrounding the graphite, the graphite appeared to be split in half by the wood. I can't recommend these "affordable" pencils because they are poorly made and nearly half are missing their primary component: a solid graphite core.Read more ›

I do a lot of work in computational notebooks and use pencils so I can erase and modify terminology easily, so I go through a lot of pencils. I like Ticonderoga pre-sharpened #2 pencils because they are soft and erase well. But, it gets pricey buying those so I looked around (on Amazon, natch since local office supply stores are getting to be increasingly expensive) for something more reasonable and found these.

Reading the other reviews gave me pause, but for the money I decided to take the plunge and buy them.
My first pleasant surprise was that they came in just over a week from placing the order. The description indicated that they might be delayed by as much as two weeks, so getting them relatively quickly was a plus.

Then, I liked the ease with which I was able to take the pencils out of the gross pack, one at a time without breaking the cellophane wrapping, a minor detail but another plus. I wanted the twelve packs of twelve to stay together so I could stand the whole assemblage up on a shelf and grab a new pencil easily without everything falling apart. It held together nicely.

Next, they smell good! Ok, I am a chick and aesthetics count. I liked the way the pencil felt in my hand.
Then, the next test: sharpening in my Panasonic autostop - some trepidation here, but, wait, no problem! Very quickly I had a lovely point on my deep yellow pencil.

Ah! The acid test: is it the right amount of soft to glide across the page with a nice but not too hard bite. Yup. Once again, Scholar met the challenge.

Finally, and this cannot be underscored enough, erasure. How well and cleanly does the eraser do the job? Perfectly with a minimum of rubber crumbing. Check!

What remains to be seen is how quickly I go through these as compared with my gold standard Ticonderogas. More on that as time evolves, but so far, so great.

Scholar scores!

This India-made pencil is not going to win accolades from those who care about weight/balance, ferrule quality or wood source. But for a classroom, office or warehouse I'd say these are just fine.
They sharpen nicely in manual or electric sharpeners and hold the point well for HB/2 lead. Eraser works okay on standard 20# office paper though it ain't no Staedtler Mats Plastic. :)

I purchased one gross and from that quality seems much better than what's at most dollar stores and comparable to General Pencil.
