Inaccurate Measures,

I loved these for all the right reasons at first. What you see is what you get and quality of craftmanship seems high. However, after using them for a couple of months I have compared the measurements to my standard glass measuring cups and found that they are off significantly. To make sure I had some Kitchen Aid measuring cups, one that has combined measurements for both dry and liquid volumes. The smallest of the three in this set ("1 cup") said I had halfway between 2/3 and 3/4 cup of water. The KitchenAid and glass measuring cups both said I had exactly 2/3 cup.
This is significant for bakers, cooks, etc. who are relying on accurate measurements in the kitchen. If you wonder why your bread isn't baking right, or your cakes aren't moist enough, and you are using these cups, double check the measurement.

Interesting idea. Basic flaw.,

I bought the one-cup version. It's accurate, and the non-breakable, microwavable, and heat-resist material is great. In this larger version, the soft-sides could be useful in creating a narrow pouring spout. Extra height above the 4-cup line makes it easy to mix ingredients or handle cup without spilling.
HOWEVER, if you look closely at the picture, you'll see that for each cup, some measurement points don't have printed lines. (In the one-cup measure, these are the 1/4, 1/2, 3/4, and 1-cup lines; in the larger measures, the 1-, 2-, 3-, and 4-cup lines.) Instead, they are simply fine ridges running around the inside of the cup. These become invisible when measuring liquids and very faint when measuring powders. How did this ever get past the design stage!? I've tried to make more noticeable marks on mine, but it's difficult to create ones that are sufficiently thin, accurately positioned, and permanent. Also, ounces aren't marked.

I have owned these for several months, and I recommend them to anyone who comes into my kitchen. After reading some of these reviews I went home and compared the measures to my old Pyrex cups. My tests showed no differences. I compared them to my silicone pop out cups (don't remember the brand) and couldn't tell any difference there really. It was subtle, like the difference between leveling a measuring cup and not.
In fact that is only feature these are missing! You can't really *level* off the cup if that wasn't obvious. This is the only reason I still have my other pop out cups. Things I love about these, a list: * They stack inside themselves and store easily. * Lightweight and won't break * You can heat them up. I melt chocolate in mine all the time. Used one * Makes pouring so easy because you can reshape it in so many ways while pouring.

does not measure up,

My first impression when I received the cups was that they looked a bit bulky but I thought they were unique and kinda cute. Then I checked the measurements against my Tupperware liquid measuring cup and a glass measuring cup that I have been using for years and I found that the measurements on the new cups are off. This was the case for all three cups. At first I was going to still keep them and make adjustments as I went along, but then I decided to send them back because I consider them to be defective.

I have the saucer shaped hummingbird feeders and was using a 1 qt glass measuring cup to fill them and never seem to be able to fill them, without spilling sugar water on the counter, so I went online and searched for a spill-proof measuring cup and found these. From the first time using them, I didn't spill a drop of sugar water on the counter. I also checked to see if they measured accurately and they were spot on, the mfg has updated the measurements on the outside of the containers (doesn't look like the picture that's posted for this product). The ounce measurements are on one side of the container, which includes 1/4, 1/3, 1/2, 2/3... cup increments on the 1 & 2 cup measuring cups, and the metric measurements are on the other side, all clearly marked on the outside of the containers and easy to read. I purchased my set directly from amazon.
Update: I've added pictures of the measuring cups.

These silicone measuring cups are wonderful!!! The 2Cup cup is perfect for an emulsion blender. Making salad dressing is such a breeze; I blend it in the measuring cup and squeeze the container to easily transfer to a glass bottle. The 1C cup makes it easy to add liquids to a stand mixer. I love using the 4C cup to pour cupcake and muffin batter into the pans. I can fill the cupcake pan perfectly without any drips, and it's much quicker than using a spoon or a scoop. Also great for filling a waffle maker and making uniform size pancakes. These are so convenient; I don't think I'll ever go back to using a glass measuring cup!
HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!!!!! FOR THE PERSON WHO COOKS OR BAKES A LOT. REALLY IS A TIME SAVER! UPDATE: 1/18/2012 I still use these measuring cups all the time!!! They really are a time saver for adding ingredients while using my Kitchen Aid Mixer. I just squeeze the sides and pour flour or liquids into the mixer while it's running and NO mess!!! I was so glad that I owned these when I received a Baby Cakes Whoopie Pie Maker as a gift. I was able to precisely pour the batter into the wells without any dripping. These silicone cups made this process so fast and easy!!! Highly recommend!!! I put them in the dishwasher for clean up and they still look new!!!

Got these because my kids kept chipping my heavy glass ones putting the dishes away. These are light, flexible, easy to use. You can easily pour into small bottle openings without a funnel by squeezing the sides. Good texture provides a nice grip. Very easy to clean. I used one in a hot water bath as a sort of double boiler and it didn't melt. I like these more than I expected, and they are worth the $$--they'll last forever.

I love the fact that they're flexible and pretty much indestructible, but I wish the measurements would include metric plus fluid ounces and pints. I happen to know that 2 cups equals 16 fluid ounces equals one pint, but I'd just as soon not have to think about it.
The cups are dishwasher safe, but I prefer to wash them by hand because I worry about the writing coming off in the dishwasher. I find the biggest one especially handy; I use it with my Bamix handheld blender to make hummus, salad dressings and smoothies.

I have several Isi products and like them all so I knew I would not be disappointed with these. In addition to the normal duties of measuring cups, they are microwave safe and can also be used with hot liquids. They are sturdy yet very flexible so are great for pouring things into my kitchenaid mixer while it's running without using the pour shield. Also, I can pour my hot pan drippings in one to prepare my liquid for making gravy and it will pour without dripping into my pan because you can squeeze the top together as much as needed to pour. They are also plenty big enough to fit a hand blender in. Great versatile product.

I purchased a set of these for myself and a set for my dad, who is visually impaired. He finds these much easier to use, especially for microwaving liquids, and very easy to grasp and pour with good control.
I liked them so well I also ordered a set for my daughter who also finds they are far superior to other measuring cups. I recommend them without reservations. |
