To protect the iPhone this way or not...,
By
This review is from: iSkin Solo FX Jelly Case for iPhone 3G/3GS - Black (Wireless Phone Accessory)
iSkin has had a good reputation in producing form-fitting cases without adding much bulk. They had a good run with the iSkin Solo with various translucent and solid colours. Then they moved on the the iSkin Solo FX which had glossy translucent candy-themed colours. It was too much for teenagers and females which obviously is their main market.
I wrote to them a few months back asking for a translucent black and white coloured iSkin Solo and someone from iSkin Toronto, Ontario replied with: ---------- "We currently do not have any new updates or news with regards to releasing new colors or designs for the iSkin solo line. We shall however, take your comments and suggestions into consideration and hopefully we can release new designs and colors more to your liking in the near future. Thank you for your kind understanding and patience regarding this matter." ---------- I may not be the only one who gave them product suggestions, but I'm glad to know that they do listen. The third iSkin iPhone case is the iSkin Solo FX SE which carries on the tacky mirror screen protector, but incorporates a translucent black case in matte finish. No more eye-catching glossy colours. Now we have a more grown-up iPhone case. It's not as loud as the previous iSkin Solo cases. Putting on the black matte case against the black iPhone and white matte against the white iPhone gives is a nice feel without the look at my tacky iPhone attention-grabbing case. But it's unmistakably an iSkin with it's circle pattern at the back. CONS: - I still wish they produce a translucent black without the circle or whatever pattern they come up with so even grown ups can give their case a second look. - Why a mirror screen protector? How about a matte screen cover similar to the Power Support product to complement the matte backing. OVERALL: Expensive price, but a good alternative in protecting your iPhone investment especially if you locked yourself into a 2-year or 3-year contract just to upgrade to the 3GS.

Just a few notes:
One, this case is great if you need something small, form-fitting and most of all not very ostentatious. People will notice its a case upon inspection but not when less than a mere cursory glance. It comes with a cover for the glass that's great since I've seen so many that have been heavily scratched. And the back side of the case is very grippable; I can walk with it in my hands whilst listening to music on my hands-free and not be concerned in the back of my mind with its grip. The only gripe I have, however, is what the cover to the glass does by unintended consequence. While protecting the area is great - the case has a coating so that when you place it it sticks well - not permanently and is quite easily removed - but stuck on without question save that try. No, what I dislike is how, say, when I switch to video I won't be able to bring up the player's menu very easily. I have to try non-straightforward tactics like flipping open the black part of the case quick to catch the screen's sensor. Or angling my nail at a decent angle to exert a certain kind of pressure I guess our fingers are able to more naturally exert without a cover. This con isn't a HUGE detraction, and I'm not sure if I'd want to make the cover of the glass less reassuringly sturdy if that had to be a trade-off to making the screen more accessible. Let's be clear - this is only an issue when it comes to re-accessing the menu after play has started and it has initially disappeared for a period of time. I just dislike having to pop entirely out of the iTunes and go back into it in order to look at the menu by reselecting my selection. But overall, aside from this - and maybe its just my iPhone (?), this is worth every penny. You're not going to find your phone sliding over any slick surfaces upon dropping. And even if dropping straight down to a floor, you're going to hear rubber - not metal - hitting whatever that scary surface was just seconds before!
